It feels like just yesterday that Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters four years ago! While we’ve seen different versions of Peter Parker in What If…? and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it’s been almost five years since Tom Holland last starred in a live-action Spider-Man movie. That’s about to change, though! Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming out next summer, and director Destin Daniel Cretton recently shared a heartfelt message announcing that filming has wrapped.
Cretton, who previously helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, turned to Instagram to announce the big news. You can read what he had to say in the post below, which included a picture of himself next to a flower-covered Tom Holland, and another giving a bird’s eye view if the director with many of the cast and crew members:
I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who shared the journey of making what’s easily been the most fulfilling film of my career. Huge thanks to Nikki, who kept us all laughing even when things were totally crazy and really held everything together. And to my kids – they somehow managed to make me put down my phone and actually be present, building epic couch fortresses with them was the best. Our cast was phenomenal, truly bringing these characters to life and moving me with their performances every single day. The crew? Unbelievable. They worked so hard with so much creativity and skill, constantly making me laugh until my sides hurt. I love you all, and I can’t wait for everyone to finally see the amazing work we created. And a special shoutout to Tom Holland – his kindness, generosity, and dedication both on and off set were inspiring, and I’m so grateful for his friendship. That’s a wrap on Spider-Man: Brand New Day!
It’s now typical for people involved in movies – like actors and directors – to announce on social media when filming wraps up. Destin Daniel Cretton did this after finishing Shang-Chi in 2020, and he’s just done it again with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. What’s nice is that along with thanking the cast and crew, Cretton also publicly thanked his wife, Nikki Chapman, and their kids for being understanding while he worked on another big Marvel movie.
With filming now complete, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is moving into post-production. There might be some extra filming later on, but hopefully, we’ll see the first trailer in the next few months. It would be great to finally learn what the movie is about, as Marvel has been keeping the plot details under wraps – which is typical for them.
Okay, so the cast for the next Spider-Man movie, which I’m hearing is tentatively titled Brand New Day, is really shaping up! We already knew Zendaya and Jacob Batalon would be back as MJ and Ned, which is fantastic. But things are getting really interesting with some returning faces – Michael Mando is back as Scorpion, and get this, both Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk are joining the party! As for new additions, Marvin Jones III is stepping into the role of Tombstone, and Sadie Sink is playing a character everyone’s been buzzing about – she’s a mystery right now. Finally, Tramell Tillman is reportedly taking over as the new head of Damage Control. It’s a packed roster, and honestly, I’m getting excited!
More to come…
