Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is The Hero’s First Movie To Feature A Major Character
The upcoming Spider-Man movie will focus on more personal, local stories, unlike the large-scale, multiverse adventures of No Way Home. However, the film won’t be entirely down-to-earth, as Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Hulk. This is a first for the Spider-Man series, as Hulk has never been in a Spider-Man movie before.
For over two decades, from Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man in 2002 to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Hulk hasn’t appeared in any of these films. That’s about to change with the 2026 movie Brand New Day. Interestingly, while the Hulk is a new addition, the movie will also feature Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. A version of the Punisher actually had a brief, background appearance in Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 2 – a stunt double for Thomas Jane played Frank Castle in one shot.
The Hulk is the biggest new addition to the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. Although Marvel hasn’t shared details about his role, set photos and videos show Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner appearing confused while on a stretcher. This suggests the Hulk may have transformed again and lost control.
Why The Hulk Being In Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Exactly What He Needs
The new direction with Brand New Day comes at just the right moment for the Hulk, who hasn’t gotten much focus in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s only had one solo film, 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, and it didn’t even star Mark Ruffalo – Edward Norton played the Hulk in that movie.
Because of tricky ownership and legal problems, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see another standalone Hulk movie. A great way to feature the Hulk, though, is to include him in a major project like the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day film. Spider-Man is consistently Marvel’s most popular character, and the success of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies provides a large audience and opportunity for the Hulk to appear.
