Sophie Turner’s career took off after she played Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and she’s since starred in popular films like the X-Men series as Jean Grey. She’s now taking on new roles, including a project called Steal and a currently unnamed Tomb Raider series.
During a conversation with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant about her movie Steal, actress Alicia Turner also discussed the upcoming Tomb Raider film. Crowley asked her about how she was preparing to play the challenging role of Lara Croft.
I can’t reveal too many details, but I started preparing for this project back in February of this year, so it’s been almost a year of training. We’re scheduled to begin filming in January, and I’m incredibly excited. I feel well-prepared, and I’m grateful for my strong working relationship with Amazon. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve created with Lara Croft and Tomb Raider – I think it’s going to be truly special.
Hugh Grant will star alongside Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver, and Martin Bobb-Semple in the new series, which is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of Fleabag. This isn’t the first time Lara Croft has been brought to life on screen; both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have previously played the iconic video game character in films.
Production on the new Tomb Raider TV series, a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will begin on January 19th. The series was officially approved in May 2024, and Waller-Bridge expressed her enthusiasm when it was announced that Taylor Turner would be the lead actress.
We’re thrilled to reveal Sophie Turner will be playing Lara Croft! It’s a dream come true to create a show of this size based on a character so many of us grew up with. The entire team is incredibly enthusiastic about Lara and embodies her adventurous, courageous, and fun-loving spirit. Prepare yourselves… Lara Croft is on her way!
In addition to her other projects, Turner will star in the upcoming thriller series Steal, which premieres January 21st. The show follows an everyday office worker who unexpectedly becomes involved in a massive heist. She’s also currently filming the Tomb Raider TV series, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
