Approaching the one-month mark since “Superman” graced the 2025 movie calendar with David Corenswet taking up the big blue Boy Scout role, it appears that the audience has embraced this new portrayal of the character. Off-screen and on, his sunny disposition as a golden retriever is evident, contributing to the ongoing success of “DCU Chapter 1.” Interestingly enough, the story of how Robert Pattinson did not reach out after joining the DCU adds an unexpected twist, while the tale of exchanging letters with previous Supermen only makes the sweetness of that connection more poignant.
If the display of “anger” shown during Corenswet’s joint interview with Nicholas Hoult for MTV is any indication, one would think that you could get away with murder in his proverbial court. Obviously joking about his rage over The Batman’s leading man not sending any word, the Twisters antagonist then reflected on this touching experience he had with two of his caped predecessors:
As a movie reviewer,
“Being part of the superhero world is a rare privilege, and I was fortunate enough to experience it while working alongside Henry Cavill during filming. Just before we wrapped up, I received a delightful letter from him. Similarly, as Tyler Hoechlin was wrapping up shooting for the last season, I penned down a letter to express my admiration.
In the remnants of what was intended to be the DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill portrayed Kal-El across three complete films. Additionally, he made brief appearances in other projects, culminating in the well-known post-credit scene for Black Adam. This version of Superman was notably more somber than Tyler Hoechlin’s role in TV series Superman & Lois, which to some viewers seemed like a contrast or balance to the Snyderverse’s portrayal of the character.

On HBO Max, you can start enjoying a variety of content, including action-packed Superman series, for just $9.99 per month. This affordable price tag opens up a vast universe of DC Comics adaptations, offering endless opportunities to immerse yourself in the world of Superman and other beloved characters. Superheroes often pass on their mantle to newcomers, and in this case, Tyler encouraged David Corenswet to take up the role.
In the correspondence, there were delightful similarities to be found. Each actor’s portrayal of Superman seemed fitting, as there was an uncanny resemblance in their written style – a common essence that linked them together. They shared a distinct spirit.
In my perspective, no matter where they go or what roles they take on, the Smallville essence that once animated the actors portraying the Metropolis protector remains deeply ingrained within them. It’s as if the DC Comics superheroes are forming a brotherhood, and given that Batman doesn’t possess powers, Robert Pattinson’s reserved demeanor seems to fit quite well in this context.
Perhaps now that the script for “The Batman: Part II” is finalized, it might be possible for the on-screen Bruce Wayne to reach out to David Corenswet and discuss the prospect of convincing James Gunn to bring our dreams of a “Batman/Superman” story to life. However, we’ll have to hold off on that, as we can all continue enjoying “Superman” in theaters at the moment.
