SNL Cold Open and Weekend Update Anger Trump Supporters

This week, Saturday Night Live satirized President Donald Trump, and, predictably, his supporters have responded with criticism.

The sketch comedy show is famous for poking fun at the current President. He’s usually featured in some way each week, and last night’s episode (November 15, 2025) was no exception. Saturday Night Live’s opening sketch and its Weekend Update segment both heavily satirized Trump and the various issues he faced this month.

Okay, so the show opened with this really unsettling scene – a press conference about the Epstein files. Karoline Leavitt, the Press Secretary, was getting grilled by reporters, and then Trump just showed up, claiming he was there to defend himself. The whole thing was bizarre. When someone finally asked him why he wouldn’t just release the files, he gave this incredibly circular answer. He basically said, “If the files had something bad about me, why would I hide them?” and then immediately followed that up with, “If I didn’t have anything to hide, wouldn’t I just release them already?” It was… a lot. Honestly, it felt like he was trying to have it both ways and it was incredibly frustrating to watch.

Trump’s supporters were unhappy with how he and Leavitt were depicted on Saturday Night Live. Many people voiced their disapproval online, with one user calling the show “pathetic” and labeling it as being made by “communist losers.” Another simply described it as a “sick, sad state of comedy.” Some commenters also criticized the show’s audience, with one person comparing the performer portraying Trump to a cartoon character and suggesting that the show’s viewers were fueled by hatred.

Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update poked fun at the disagreement between Donald Trump and the BBC. The BBC had released a documentary featuring Trump’s January 6th speech, which they edited, and Trump objected. Michael Che on SNL responded by presenting what he claimed was the full, unedited version of the speech. The segment cleverly edited together short clips of Trump speaking to make it sound like he said, “Everyone knows I went down on Bill Clinton.”

His supporters were also upset by the sketch. They quickly took to social media, dismissing Saturday Night Live as irrelevant, with one person writing, “SNL has lost its value.” Another attacked the show’s cast and writers, claiming Trump was far more intelligent, stating, “It’s ironic they portray Trump as having dementia when he’s much sharper and more clear-thinking than anyone involved with the show, including Lorne Michaels. He’s working on world peace and fixing the economy while they perform childish skits.”

Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
