Connor Storrie hosted Saturday Night Live on February 28th, with a musical performance by Mumford & Sons. The show featured sketches referencing current events, including an incident at the BAFTA Awards where a man with Tourette syndrome unexpectedly shouted a racial slur during a presentation by Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan.
The comedy sketch explores how celebrities who often say or do controversial things might attempt to excuse their actions by claiming they have a particular condition. You can watch it here:
The sketch becomes increasingly absurd as it progresses. It starts with Mel Gibson, played by Andrew Dismukes, jokingly blaming Tourette’s syndrome for his past outbursts. Then, Ashley Padilla as J.K. Rowling attributes her controversial views on transgender people to the same condition. By the end, Kam Patterson, portraying Kanye West, claims to have numerous forms of Tourette’s. Meanwhile, creator and performer Alex Storrie plays Armie Hammer, referencing the scandal where Hammer was accused of disturbing behavior, including expressing cannibalistic fantasies. Storrie’s character then absurdly claims that cannibalism is a common symptom of Tourette’s.
The comedy sketch is amusing, but some might see it as suggesting that John Davidson, the 54-year-old who actually used the offensive language, was faking a Tourette’s diagnosis – even though he received one at age 25. He was the basis for the main character in the film I Swear, for which Robert Aramayo won a BAFTA for Best Actor. However, that’s a harsh interpretation. The sketch primarily satirizes clueless celebrities attempting to cover up their own inappropriate actions.

Delroy Lindo Addresses BAFTA Fallout Again
The repercussions from the incident at the BAFTAs are still being felt. While both the BBC and BAFTA host Alan Cumming issued apologies, many found them inadequate. Delroy Lindo specifically expressed his disappointment that BAFTA didn’t reach out to him or Jordan afterward, instead focusing on public relations without directly addressing the situation with those involved.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Lindo spoke about the situation again at the NAACP Awards on Saturday, receiving a standing ovation. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support his family and he have received since last weekend, saying, “It means a lot to us, and it’s an honor to be here with all of you who have shown us such incredible support.” He described the situation as a positive turn from what could have been negative, and thanked everyone for their backing.
