In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, one of your first big decisions involves Benny Muldoon, the Sheriff of Seattle, who works for Prince Ryong Choi. Benny has gone on a violent spree, much to the Prince’s anger. To earn Prince Ryong’s permission to remain in the city, you must find Benny and bring him back, however you choose.

You’ll find Benny hidden deep within a construction site, held captive by a group of Anarchs. After rescuing him and defeating him in combat, you’ll have a choice: either hand Benny over to The Prince as you were originally instructed, or allow Katsumi and her Anarch followers to take him and deal with him according to their harsh methods.

If you agree to hand Benny over to Katsumi and the Anarchs (choosing “You may keep Benny“):

Your relationship with Katsumi will improve (+Impressed).
Your relationship with Ryong will be damaged (+Disappointed).
Benny will remain with the Anarchs, presumably to be interrogated, then killed. You’ll become Sheriff of Seattle in his stead.

Katsumi will be surprised when you let her keep Benny, but she’ll quickly say you’re trustworthy. She then suggests meeting at Hole in the Wall, a bar, to talk about potential future collaborations. You can head there right after you get back to Ryong.

Starting your relationship with Katsumi this way will create a good impression. While Ryong might be a little upset, it won’t matter much in the long run—she’s still likely to appoint you Sheriff if Benny isn’t around, so the immediate consequences are minimal.

If you return Benny to Ryong:

Katsumi will let you go, but your relationship with her will suffer. (+Angry)
Your relationship with Ryong will improve (+Impressed)

You’ll have another chance to see Katsumi at Hole in the Wall later, but she’ll likely be upset, and with good reason.

For now, this choice won’t change much about what happens. The story will continue as before. But, how you build relationships with different groups will ultimately determine the ending you receive.

Small, repeated actions will add up, and ultimately, you’ll witness the fate of the faction leader you’re closest to. This outcome is different from how much you align with a clan overall. This is the main way your choices impact the story in VTMB 2, so it’s important to keep this in mind as you play.

Even if you make a small misstep with either Katsumi or Ryong early on, it won’t automatically decide the outcome. You have ample opportunity to rebuild your relationship with both of them, so…

Keep Your Options Open

In the end, I decided to give Benny to the Anarchs, and I was happy with that choice. I’d already developed a good relationship with Ryong earlier in the game, but hadn’t interacted much with the Anarchs. Allowing Katsumi to keep Benny helped me build positive connections with both groups, which gave me more flexibility when deciding how the story would end.

However, if you’ve accidentally angered Ryong, it might be best to give her Benny as a peace offering to win her favor. You can always apologize to Katsumi later if you end up preferring the Anarchs.

If you’re already very familiar with the Vampire: The Masquerade story and have decided which vampire clan you want to support, you can simply give Benny to that clan. This will quickly move you toward their specific ending.

Honestly, you can’t really mess this up too badly. Don’t worry about upsetting Benny, Katsumi, or Ryong – just choose whatever feels right for your character and the story. If you do end up crossing someone, you’ll have chances to make amends later on in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. I’m just focusing on what I want to do, and you should too!
