The show Shifting Gears is becoming known for bringing together cast members from Tim Allen’s past TV shows. Actors from Home Improvement and Last Man Standing have been appearing alongside him, and Nancy Travis, who played his wife on Last Man Standing, has become a regular on the ABC sitcom. Recently, fans of Shifting Gears got another surprise when Kaitlyn Dever, from Last Man Standing, unexpectedly visited Tim Allen on set – and a heartwarming video of their reunion has been shared.
Dever played Eve Baxter, the youngest daughter of Mike Baxter on the show Last Man Standing. She was a main cast member for the first six seasons, and after her character went off to the Air Force Academy, she appeared in smaller roles during the final three seasons. Even though Last Man Standing ended in 2021, Dever and Allen remain close. The official Instagram account for Shifting Gears recently shared a sweet behind-the-scenes video of Dever surprising Allen – you can check it out here!

Allen was clearly surprised to see his former TV daughter on set, and his reaction was genuinely heartwarming. While Dever isn’t currently appearing on Shifting Gears (or at least, not yet), it seems she just wanted to surprise Allen, which I appreciate more than a quick appearance on the show. Allen shared about their sweet reunion on X, and it’s making me want to revisit Last Man Standing with a Hulu subscription.
Dever’s been working on many projects recently, so it’s uncertain if she’d have time to appear on Shifting Gears. However, she clearly still cares about Last Man Standing and enjoys her connection with her former co-star. It’s great to see that Dever and Allen maintain a positive relationship, as work friendships can differ greatly from show to show.
It would have been perfect if Travis had been there too. Seeing Dever reunited with both of her TV parents from Last Man Standing would have been incredibly touching.

Hulu is offering a 30-day free trial for both its ad-supported and ad-free plans. Subscribers can watch shows like Shifting Gears and Last Man Standing, along with other Hulu exclusives. Plans start at $9.99 per month after the free trial, and this offer is available to new and some returning customers. See the deal here.
Despite everything else going on, Shifting Gears continues to bring back cast members from Last Man Standing. Earlier this year, Jay Leno made a guest appearance as himself, referencing Home Improvement – the show he was known for, rather than another sitcom he appeared on. It was a fun and enjoyable moment, and I’m hoping we’ll see more Last Man Standing reunions in the future, with either Leno or other familiar faces.
Given the heartwarming reunions we’ve already seen on Shifting Gears, it’s likely more are coming. A reunion between Kaitlyn Dever and Tim Allen would be great, but we’ll have to wait and see! Don’t miss new episodes of Shifting Gears airing Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC.
