The edgiest character in the universe is officially receiving a new U.S. release.
The Japanese manga publisher CoroCoro Comic, known for Doraemon, has announced that its Shadow the Hedgehog manga, titled The Jet Black Hedgehog: Shadow the Hedgehog, will be released internationally. It will be available in English, French, and Spanish. The author and artist, Yuuki Imada, shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Manga Officially Coming to the U.S.
Fans will soon be able to read both the Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog & The Blade of Courage manga in English internationally. Sonic started as a monthly series in CoroCoro Comic on June 13, 2025, and Shadow the Hedgehog ran from September 13, 2024, to February 15, 2025.
The first edition of the Shadow the Hedgehog manga came out around the same time as a 2024 game release. That game included a new story focusing on the secrets of Shadow’s history.
Ever since it was first announced, fans outside of Japan have been eagerly awaiting an official English release of the Shadow the Hedgehog manga. This is because the manga explores Shadow’s backstory with Maria and the scientists on the Space Colony ARK in more detail. Fans were so excited that they started translating the chapters themselves as soon as the first one came out.
It’s no surprise that CoroCoro was upset about the illegal online release of the Shadow manga. In a September 2024 statement, they explained that manga relies on reader support to continue. They emphasized that even sharing screenshots on social media without permission is a copyright violation, and if it keeps happening, it could prevent artists from creating new manga.

Initially, Sonic fans were frustrated by CoroCoro’s claim that English releases of popular manga were unlikely. However, their recent announcement shows they are now considering international fans. Still, we don’t yet know when the Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog manga will be available in English, or which company will distribute them in the U.S.
