See The Rock Pay Tribute To Robin Williams On Set Exactly 30 Years After The Comedian ‘Introduced The World To Jumanji’

As many people prepare for the holidays and colder weather, Dwayne Johnson and the team filming the next Jumanji movie are experiencing something quite different. The sequel, slated for release in 2026, is currently in production. This week holds special meaning for everyone involved, as December 15th marked the 30th anniversary of the original Jumanji film starring Robin Williams, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson shared a tribute to both the movie and its beloved star in a video from the set.

Some WWE stars shared tributes on social media to Robin Williams and everyone who worked on the original film, acknowledging that the franchise wouldn’t have been so successful without their contributions. See one of the posts below, and keep reading if you can’t view it to find out what the veteran known as Smashing Machine had to say.

I can really feel how excited Dwayne Johnson is about finishing the Jumanji trilogy. It’s awesome that he gets to revisit the world Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and Bradley Pierce first introduced us to back in ’95! He’s shared that he feels this way, and it’s clear he loves being part of this story.

We’re on the set of Jumanji today, December 15th, 2025 – a really special Monday! It’s the 30th anniversary of the original Jumanji film starring Robin Williams, which came out on December 15th, 1995. It’s amazing to be here celebrating the legacy he and the whole team created. I’m getting chills just thinking about it! [Shows arm with goosebumps to the camera].

Johnson then talked about his favorite scene from the first movie, which involved the characters Alan Parrish, played by Robin Williams, and Van Pelt, played by Jonathan Hyde.

You know, one of my absolute favorite scenes from Jumanji is when Van Pelt confronts Alan Parrish. He asks Alan if he’s afraid, and Alan bravely admits he is, but shares the powerful advice his father gave him – to always face your fears. The tension is incredible when Van Pelt cocks his gun and asks for last words! It’s so clever how Alan suddenly realizes it’s all happening because of Jumanji, and right then, you can see the dice starting to roll – it’s just a brilliant moment!

It’s undeniable that’s a fantastic movie scene, and I absolutely love it. Imagine having a secret word you could use whenever you faced a dangerous situation – how incredible would that be?

The former athlete, now an actor, is constantly reminded of that moment – he wears a necklace representing it. He explains this in a recent video, saying:

As many of you know, and some may not, this is my tribute to Robin Williams – a true legend and one of my favorite actors. I was lucky enough to meet him once and give him a hug. In honor of him and the original Jumanji, I actually have the original dice right here with me. To Robin, and to the entire cast and crew from 30 years ago: we love and thank you. It’s amazing to be on set today, 30 years later, with such a talented team of hundreds of people who are all passionate about Jumanji. So, Robin, we love you and thank you again.

Dwayne Johnson has mentioned his tribute to Robin Williams and the original film before, having highlighted the special dice prop back in November during filming. It’s rare for fans to own items from their beloved movies, but as a major star, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has unique access to Hollywood memorabilia.

Robin Williams was remembered by many this year. Recently, Kirsten Dunst shared her experience working with him, and earlier in 2025, his son Zachary Williams posted a touching tribute for his birthday. Sadly, his daughter Zelda Williams had to ask fans to stop sharing AI-generated videos of her father. Hopefully, the creators of the new movie will avoid using AI to recreate his character.

The new action-adventure sequel will also star a lot of well-known actors, including Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan (who recently had a birthday while filming), Jack Black, Rhys Darby, Nick Jonas, Danny DeVito, Burn Gorman, Alex Wolff, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Ser’Darius Blain, and Marin Hinkle, among others.

The next Jumanji movie will be released in theaters on December 11, 2026, shortly before the 31st anniversary of the original film.
