Scrubs Season 10: JD & Carla’s Friendship Remains A Key Element Of The Series

Beware – spoilers ahead for season 10, episode 7 of Scrubs! The latest season of Scrubs quietly showed us again why the show was always so great. This Hulu revival feels fresh and isn’t just a trip down memory lane. It genuinely continues the story as if the show never left the air. This works because the original series was built for it – the characters are hilariously over-the-top, but their problems and connections feel authentic.

The new Scrubs episodes catch up with JD, Turk, Carla, and Elliot 18 years after the original series ended. A lot has changed in their lives, and episode 7, “My Best Friend’s Barbecue,” highlights this perfectly. Turk and Carla are hosting a barbecue and choose to invite Elliot and her boyfriend, pointedly leaving out JD – a situation reminiscent of JD and Elliot’s on-again, off-again relationship in the past. However, unlike before, their lives and relationships have matured significantly over the last two decades.

I loved how season 10, episode 7 of Scrubs really focused on JD and Carla. It was such a smart move – really emotional, funny, and even had a great flashback! It felt like it perfectly wrapped up their relationship in a way that only Scrubs could, bringing everything full circle.

Scrubs Season 10 Brings JD & Carla’s Friendship Full Circle

Throughout Scrubs, Carla has always been portrayed as a strong and capable nurse, and she’s well aware of her own abilities. But in season 10, we see her confidence begin to waver. It’s revealed that she’s going through menopause, which impacts her energy levels and makes it harder to maintain her usual workload. While she appreciates JD’s willingness to help, she gets upset when he tries to solve the problem by reducing the number of patients she sees.

In season 10, episode 7 of Scrubs, it’s revealed that Carla continues to face a familiar issue: she’s always there for others, but has a hard time asking for help herself. She shares this with JD, and they recall when JD was an intern and Carla mentored him. Now, with JD as Chief of Medicine, Carla is the one who’s struggling to get through a workday.

As a huge Scrubs fan, this season 10 episode really got to me. It’s so cool to see how the tables turn – just like JD always leaned on Carla, she finally lets Bambi be there for her. They have this really sweet, honest moment sharing ice cream in the morgue, remembering how they first met – and we even get to see that first meeting, back on JD’s first day! It’s a beautiful full-circle moment, and it really hit home how important JD and Carla’s friendship was to what made Scrubs so special.

JD & Carla’s Relationship Has Always Been Key In Scrubs

The close friendship between JD and Turk is a major source of humor in Scrubs, and the on-again, off-again relationship between JD and Elliot drove much of the show’s romantic storylines. However, the real emotional core of Scrubs comes from JD’s connection with Carla. While JD saw Dr. Cox as a teacher, Carla was his true guide at the hospital. Over time, their relationship evolved, and they both found a comfortable, honest connection with each other that they didn’t share with anyone else, not even Turk or Elliot. They became like family, and some of the show’s most touching scenes revolved around their bond.

It’s wonderful that the new Scrubs revival has successfully recreated the show’s original chemistry, even after so many years. This is especially remarkable considering Judy Reyes, who played Carla, isn’t a regular cast member this season – she’s only been in a few episodes. However, the show makes the most of every scene she’s in, making her limited appearances hardly noticeable. This great balance led to another strong and heartfelt episode of Scrubs, built around the special bond between Carla and JD, just like fans remember from the original series.
