As a huge fan of Scrubs, I’m so excited to hear who’s returning for the reboot! That show really hit me in the feels back in the 2000s – I laughed, I cried, it was perfect. Watching J.D. (Zach Braff) chase his dream of becoming a doctor was just so relatable. What I loved most was how it mixed goofy humor with genuinely compelling medical stories and sweet romances. It was a really special show.
Even though the ninth and final season of Scrubs wasn’t as strong as previous seasons – largely due to a new cast of characters – the show is still enjoyable to watch from beginning to end. It’s not surprising that Scrubs is getting a reboot, set to premiere on February 25, 2026, and fans are eager to find out which original cast members will return.
Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke)
No reboot of Scrubs would be complete without Elliot Reid, J.D.’s love interest, and fans will be happy to know she’s returning. Elliot is one of the most well-developed characters in the series. Similar to Zooey Deschanel’s Jess Day in New Girl, she begins as quirky and high-strung, but grows into a more down-to-earth and sympathetic character as the show progresses.
J.D. and Elliot’s relationship is complicated, and unlike many TV couples, their future isn’t always certain. Luckily, fans who rooted for them will be happy to know they end up married with a baby by the end of the Scrubs series.
I’m really looking forward to catching up with Elliot and hearing about everything she’s been up to. We’re excited to see how her marriage to J.D. is going and if they’re still enjoying raising their child, but we’re also interested to know what she’s doing for work these days.
J.D. (Zach Braff)
Fans will be happy to hear that J.D. is returning for the new Scrubs series! His limited appearance in season 9 didn’t feel quite right, so this is welcome news. While details about the reboot’s story won’t be available until February 2026, we know it will follow J.D.’s journey as a doctor.
By the end of Scrubs, J.D. and his colleagues have grown from new doctors into experienced professionals. J.D. stands out as a character who, despite his playful side, is deeply committed to helping others and making a positive impact.
Successful reboots and revivals strike a good balance between appealing to fans’ fond memories and allowing characters to develop. It will be fascinating to see how he’s grown and what kind of person he is now, after all this time.
Christopher Turk (Donald Faison)
Donald Faison will reprise his role as Turk, J.D.’s best friend and constant companion throughout the original series. While J.D. is often whimsical and enthusiastic – sometimes to a fault – Turk provides a grounded and funny perspective.
After the creator of Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, pointed out that season 9 lost focus on the amazing friendship between Turk and J.D., it looks like the new show will bring them back to center stage. For many fans, their relationship was the best part of the original series, so this is welcome news.
As a long-time fan, I was seriously worried about the Scrubs reboot. Honestly, it felt like it wouldn’t be worth watching without J.D. and Turk. But now that both of them are confirmed to return? Huge relief! I’m already picturing funny new situations, and I’m really hoping they sprinkle in some nods to classic moments and lines that made the original series so special. It feels like the reboot might actually deliver now.
We’re excited that the new show will keep showcasing the strong and heartwarming friendship between these two characters. While the show is a comedy set in a hospital, and deals with the challenges faced by patients and doctors, we especially love the connection between J.D. and Turk.
Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes)
Given Turk and Carla’s memorable wedding on Scrubs, it would be disappointing if Carla didn’t appear in the new series. It’s great to know we’ll get to see her character again and find out what’s happening with their relationship now.
Carla is a smart, skilled, and caring nurse who provides a grounded presence alongside the often silly and unfocused characters like Turk and J.D. Her future career path is currently unclear, which makes fans eager to see what happens in the new series.
After Carla departs from Scrubs, she steps away from her nursing career to concentrate on family life. The show has always balanced the work and personal lives of characters like Carla and Elliot, so it would be disappointing if only the male characters had compelling careers in the revival.
Hooch (Phill Lewis)
Phill Lewis returns as Hooch, the surgeon at Sacred Heart Hospital, who is often referred to as “crazy” by other characters on the show.
As a long-time fan, I’m pretty sure Hooch won’t be back at Sacred Heart full-time. He left the hospital unexpectedly, and not on great terms, so a permanent return seems unlikely. However, I’m hoping for at least a quick cameo – it would be great to see him pop in and visit everyone again.
It’s unlikely a modern TV show would label a character as “crazy” these days. When Hooch appears in the reboot, we can expect some nods to his past storylines. There’s also a chance the show will acknowledge that making fun of him before wasn’t right.
Todd Quinlan (Robert Maschio)
Todd Quinlan has been confirmed to return in the Scrubs reboot, but bringing back his character presents a unique challenge. Fans are excited to see J.D. and Turk’s playful dynamic again, and are hoping for the return of Elliot and Carla. There’s also a lot of interest in how Sacred Heart Hospital has evolved and meeting the new generation of interns.
Honestly, Todd is just… a lot. He’s notorious for saying really inappropriate and often sexist things – I mean, who asks about someone’s chest in front of them? Or just constantly tells dirty jokes? Because of that, he’s easily one of the least lovable characters on Scrubs. I definitely wasn’t alone in cringing whenever he appeared on screen!
This kind of humor doesn’t really hold up today, and it wasn’t particularly funny when the show first came out. Knowing Todd will likely return as the funny character, we hope he’s grown up a bit since we last saw him.
Dr. Perry Cox (John McGinley)
John McGinley returns as Dr. Perry Cox in the new Scrubs. He plays the tough but endearing doctor who guides J.D. and the others. Known for his grumpy demeanor, Dr. Cox provides a compelling contrast to J.D.’s optimistic outlook.
With J.D. and Turk now experienced doctors working alongside Cox, we’re excited to see how their relationship evolves. Expect plenty of playful banter referencing their past, and J.D. might even try to remind Cox of the good times they’ve shared.
We were hoping Cox would deliver one of his signature, energetic outbursts, prompting us to revisit the original show and enjoy his memorable lines all over again.
J.D. seems to have developed as a character, but would it be as enjoyable if Cox became noticeably happier and more upbeat? It’s hoped that, for the sake of remembering the show fondly, J.D. will still be the familiar character we all love from Scrubs.
