Scrubs’ John C. McGinley Shares Why He Thinks The Revival Is Happening, And I Want To See How His Take Plays Out

I’m absolutely thrilled about the Scrubs revival, and I can’t be the only one! The show is coming back to ABC in early 2026, and they’re bringing back some of our favorites – John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox, thankfully! It’s been fifteen years since the original series ended, and after reading what McGinley said about why they decided to bring it back, I’m so eager to see how it all unfolds in a few months. I’m really curious to see what they’ve come up with!

John C. McGinley recently told People he didn’t hesitate to rejoin the upcoming Scrubs revival. He described creator Bill Lawrence – known for Apple TV+ hits like Ted Lasso and Shrinking – as a close friend and a hugely influential figure in comedy, comparing him to Norman Lear. McGinley also believes the show’s return is thanks to a new generation of fans, including his own daughters.

It’s really odd to meet people in their twenties and thirties who tell me they watched ‘Scrubs’ when they were growing up. It makes me realize how long ago it was! I feel the same way thinking about how much my own daughters enjoyed it. They loved the show and thought it was hilarious, which is amazing. That dedicated fanbase is actually what’s making a reboot possible, and that’s fantastic.

I’m a bit older than the typical viewer mentioned, but I totally understand the love for Scrubs. I discovered it through Comedy Central reruns in the mid-2000s and was immediately a fan. Even now, I still enjoy rewatching episodes on Hulu or checking out favorite scenes on YouTube. It really is one of the greatest sitcoms ever made, and it’s clear the show still has a dedicated following, especially among younger audiences, as John C. McGinley pointed out when ABC brought it back on TV.

Hulu is offering a 30-day free trial for both its ad-supported and ad-free plans. This gives you access to a wide range of content, including popular originals like What We Do in the Shadows, Tell Me Lies, The Bear, and Only Murders In The Building, as well as classic shows like Scrubs. New and returning customers who qualify can try the service for a month without paying, with subscriptions starting at $9.99 per month. See the deal here.

Will the new Scrubs revival be as popular as the original? The way people watch TV has changed a lot since the 2000s with the rise of streaming. Many newer fans might not watch Scrubs live on ABC, but will likely catch it later on Hulu. ABC needs to consider this when looking at ratings and deciding if they should make another season. Hopefully, the revival does better than the Frasier reboot on Paramount+.

The new season of Scrubs kicks off on ABC Wednesday, February 25th at 8 p.m. Eastern. Fan favorites John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Robert Maschio, and Phil Lewis will be returning as Dr. Cox, Carla, Todd Quinlan, and Dr. Hooch, respectively. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke are back as series regulars playing JD, Turk, and Elliot. Joining the cast are new faces including Vanessa Bayer from Saturday Night Live, Joel Kim Booster of Loot, and actors Ava Bunn, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi, and Amanda Morrow.
