Scream 7’s Joel McHale Breaks His Silence On Getting To Work With Neve Campbell And More On The Movie

The details about Scream 7 are still scarce, but we can expect it to terrorize cinema screens in 2026. One of the latest additions to the franchise has shared some exclusive insights into the making of this iconic horror series. In the new installment, Joel McHale joins the cast as Sydney Prescott’s husband, Mark. Recently, McHale shared his experiences working alongside Neve Campbell and revealed more about his role in the upcoming horror film.

Lately, Joel McHale had an extensive conversation with Collider where he discussed his experience in the horror genre. The actor emphasized the need for “vitality” and “self-control” to stand out in a frightening film. Additionally, he offered some insights on Scream 7, expressing his enthusiasm about collaborating with such a remarkable group of skilled individuals. He expressed to the media outlet:

“I talked to Collider about my time in horror films and how essential it is to bring ‘energy’ and ‘restraint’ to make an impact. I also shared some thoughts on Scream 7, expressing my excitement for the chance to work with so many talented people.

With Scream, you encounter Kevin Williamson, a legendary and brilliant mind. Neve Campbell, she’s an actor of Oscar-worthy caliber and star quality. You approach the project with gravity. Although it goes without saying, in these heavy drama scenes, you’re aware that Kevin is meticulously constructing the narrative in his mind. I strive to portray the character that Kevin has crafted in such situations, receiving guidance, ideally, and remaining receptive to it. Collaborating with Kevin was an unbelievable experience for me.

For McHale, a dedicated admirer of classic horror slasher movies from his youth, working on the beloved ’90s horror series felt like living a dream. As a fellow horror enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a twinge of envy upon reading his comments. His excitement is palpable, and it seems he was ecstatic to be on set, all while being pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything came together.

I was taken aback. When the offer arrived, they said, “You’ll be there in a week.” I couldn’t fathom it. The place was filled with people.

In an interview, Joel McHale shared that while attending the University of Washington, he was captivated by every single movie from the Scream series. He further discussed his personal connection to the franchise, what ignited his fascination with it, and how becoming part of one of the most renowned horror movies has been a long-cherished dream for him, now finally realized.

The Scream movie was thrilling and nerve-wracking, filled with humor but also a relentless killer. It was like juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. Just like being a kid, you’d think, ‘I wish I could star in an Indiana Jones adventure.’ That’s the dream!

Joel McHale, known for his witty and sardonic style, appears tailor-made for the horror series renowned for combining grisly deaths with humorously timed jokes. I, among others, eagerly anticipate what he’ll contribute to this enduring franchise, especially as Sydney Prescott’s husband, Mark (not to be mixed up with the other Mark portrayed by Patrick Dempsey in the third movie – that character won’t reappear). I’m optimistic that McHale will prove a fantastic newcomer among the legacy actors returning for the seventh chapter.

On Peacock TV, you can stream Scream VI along with other terrifyingly good horror movies for just $7.99 per month. Alternatively, opt for the annual plan which costs $79.99. For those who prefer an ad-free experience and the convenience to download titles for offline viewing, consider the Peacock Premium membership at a slightly higher cost. Deal awaits!

The seventh installment of the “Scream” series, titled “Scream 7“, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on February 27 next year. To get ready for this upcoming film, it might be a fantastic idea to rewatch the latest release, “Scream VI“, which can now be streamed with a subscription to Paramount+.
