Michael Chiklis shared that a spin-off movie focusing on a fight between the Hulk and the Thing was considered shortly after the first Fantastic Four film. He explained that the studio explored the idea as a way to build on the movie’s success, but it never progressed past the initial planning phase.
Michael Chiklis says plans for Hulk vs. Thing spin-off ‘were in discussions’
Michael Chiklis shared that after the first Fantastic Four movie did well, there was talk of a spin-off featuring a fight between his character, The Thing, and Hulk. Unfortunately, the idea didn’t get very far and was abandoned following the release of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
During a C2E2 2026 panel, actor Chiklis discussed how 20th Century Fox considered various ways to build on the success of the first film. He recalled that the movie’s strong performance at the box office sparked ideas for spin-offs. Chiklis mentioned he’d always loved the classic comic book storyline “Hulk vs. Thing” and had pitched it as a potential spin-off, but it never materialized.
Despite the initial discussions, the project never actually happened. As he explained to Pop Verse, “They just didn’t do it. They didn’t follow through, and I was disappointed because I really thought it would have been a lot of fun.”
Chiklis explained that the idea for this project came up as a potential spin-off between the first and second movies, when the filmmakers were exploring different options for the future of the franchise. He said, “It was one of many ideas being discussed at the time.”
Despite the planned project being cancelled, Chiklis pointed out the original films were very successful financially. He stated, “It didn’t work out, but as far as I know, those movies earned around $750 million.”
