Scott Patterson, who played Sully on the CW’s show, won’t be back for the fourth season. He’s confirmed he’s leaving due to disagreements with the show’s creative team.
Before Patterson’s confirmation, there was concern about his future with the show, especially after he wasn’t included in promotional materials for the upcoming season, which premieres on April 20th. According to reports, Patterson has now released a statement confirming he won’t be in the new episodes. The actor explained he decided to leave because, while he cares about his character, he disagreed with the planned storyline for Season 4.
Sully Will Not Appear in Season 4 of Sullivan’s Crossing
Actors often become deeply connected to the characters and stories they portray, and I felt that way about Sully. However, things behind the scenes became increasingly difficult, and I ultimately had to accept that I couldn’t continue with the show.
Mark Patterson disagreed with statements made by the show’s creator, Roma Roth, regarding his departure. Roth told Us Weekly that Season 4 begins with his character, Sully, still abroad, following his trip to Ireland at the end of Season 3. She also suggested that his character could return in later seasons if it fit the show’s storyline.
Patterson responded with a statement saying it’s upsetting that people are suggesting he and Sully were abandoned, because that’s not true at all. He added that those who have already commented publicly actually know the situation is different, but chose to misrepresent it.
According to reports, Chad Patterson requested to be let out of his contract after the third season of Sullivan’s Crossing because he wasn’t satisfied with the direction of his character’s storyline. He didn’t receive a formal offer to return for a potential fifth season, which surprised him after recent statements made by the show’s creator. Patterson ultimately wants fans of Sullivan’s Crossing to understand the real reasons behind his departure and feels they deserve to know the truth.
I didn’t plan on saying anything, but the fans of the books and show deserve to know what happened. I’ve always appreciated those who support the industry by watching and loving these characters – we’re incredibly fortunate to be able to bring them to life. I especially enjoyed playing Sully and really advocated for his character and voice. He’s a complex and fascinating character that book fans already know and love.
Patterson explained that the fans deserved more respect than to believe he would dismiss the show or them. Ultimately, he said, everyone involved is a fan of the characters and stories, and he’ll always stand up for what he believes is right.
Maggie’s Husband Reveals Shocking News in Season 4
Season 4 of Sullivan’s Crossing finds Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) settling into a new routine – she’s found direction in her career and is recommitting to her relationship with Cal. However, her ex-husband, Liam (Marcus Rosner), unexpectedly arrives with news that throws everything into chaos, making Cal wonder if Maggie will ever be able to escape her past.
Season 4 of Sullivan’s Crossing will premiere on the CW on Apr. 20, 2026.
