Scott Grimes Opens Up About ‘Ted’ Season 2’s Wildest Episode [Exclusive]

Spoilers ahead for ‘Ted’ Season 2!

The second season of Seth MacFarlane’s Ted TV series is now available on Peacock, following a two-year wait after the first season. Set in 1994, this season centers on Ted and John Bennett during his final year of high school. John is navigating the usual teenage experiences – trying to find a girlfriend and figuring out what it means to grow up. The show blends realistic coming-of-age stories with more imaginative, fantastical adventures for John and his talking teddy bear, Ted.

One episode focuses on the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, which has been a worldwide favorite since 1974. When Ted and John try to earn money for marijuana, their plan unexpectedly involves the whole family, leading to a lot of funny chaos.

In an exclusive interview with MovieWeb, Ted stars Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach talked about the Dungeons & Dragons episode. Grimes explained that when it comes to the strange game, Susan simply wants to feel included and spend time with others, while Matty has no interest in it at all. However, this difference in their reactions is actually really important to the storyline.

I think this whole thing started because Susan wanted to get together. Honestly, I wasn’t interested, I’m only doing it for her. What really makes that episode work, though, is the dynamic – like when someone would tell me to sit down, and I would. And I remember asking if we’d have to keep using that ridiculous wig for a long time. I think Matty really disliked it, but that contrast was important. It’s good to have someone a little grumpy when everyone else is enthusiastic. We really had fun making that episode, and we put a lot of effort into it.

Ubach: Oh my gosh, it was phenomenal.

Okay, seriously, Ubach was amazing as that knight – or whatever character I was playing! It was honestly really beautiful and I just have to say, she looked incredible. I was totally captivated!

The third episode features a wild story where Ted, John, and their family dress up in costumes inspired by the game they’re playing. We see Matty as Friar Tuck – complete with a bald cap – and Susan in full knight armor with a sword! They have to battle a troll and overcome other challenges, which is incredibly funny, especially because Matty complains throughout the whole thing.

Although it’s still unconfirmed whether Ted will return for a third season, the current season is the funniest yet. With episodes tackling surprisingly bold topics – like John and Ted experimenting with a phone sex line, and Blaire facing an unplanned pregnancy – Ted Season 2 doesn’t shy away from anything.
