Disney is moving forward with a highly anticipated movie after deciding to recast Scarlett Johansson. While Johansson has worked with Disney for over a decade, their relationship hasn’t always been smooth. She was originally set to star in a big upcoming live-action remake, but Disney has changed course.
According to Variety, Kathryn Hahn is being considered to star in Disney’s live-action remake of the animated film Tangled. If she accepts the role, she’ll join Teagan Croft, who will play Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim, who will play Flynn Rider.

Actress Hahn is set to portray Mother Gothel, the villain from the movie Tangled. Mother Gothel, originally voiced by Donna Murphy, is an ancient woman who maintains her youth using the power of a magical golden flower. When the flower heals Rapunzel’s mother during childbirth, Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel and exploits the magic in her hair to continue staying young.

Originally, Scarlett Johansson was set to play the villain in the remake, but she ultimately left the project. Patricia Hahn later took on the role, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter in January.
Disney is planning a live-action remake of its popular 2010 animated film, Tangled. Michael Gracey, known for directing The Greatest Showman, will direct, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who worked on Thor: Love and Thunder, is writing the script. Currently, there’s no information about when production will begin or when the movie will be released.
Scarlett Johansson’s Schedule After Tangled Exit

I was so excited to hear about Scarlett Johansson potentially joining the cast of Tangled! But it seems like she’s incredibly in-demand, which isn’t surprising. I recently read she’s signed on for The Batman – Part II at DC Studios, and I’m thrilled! It’ll be amazing to see her work with Sebastian Stan again, and alongside stars like Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis. She’s definitely keeping busy!
It’s possible the movie’s shooting schedule clashed with Disney’s plans for Tangled, making it impossible for her to star in both. Although her role in The Batman – Part II hasn’t been announced yet, she’s anticipated to be a major character – possibly Bruce Wayne’s new love interest, and someone with a complex, potentially villainous side.
Johansson will also star in a new Exorcist movie directed by Mike Flanagan, produced by Blumhouse and Universal. While her specific role hasn’t been revealed, she’s expected to help revitalize the franchise after the 2023 film, The Exorcist: Believer, didn’t perform well in theaters.
Just because Scarlett Johansson is no longer involved with Tangled doesn’t signal the end of her work with Disney. Fans are eager to see her reprise her role as Black Widow in either of the upcoming Avengers films, but it’s currently unknown if she will.
