Debuting in the late 1990s, this show revolutionized television, and its influence is still felt today. Sarah Michelle Gellar recently discussed its lasting impact while talking about a new horror project.
The actress will star alongside Samara Weaving in the follow-up to the popular 2019 comedy horror film. The new movie will also feature Kathryn Newton, and a subtle reference to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, Buffy Summers, was included. Gellar recently shared with Entertainment Tonight that she was unaware of this nod.
Ready or Not 2 Honors Buffy

The story continues with Weaving returning with her sister, Faith (played by Newton), after a surprising visit from her new in-laws on her wedding night. Gellar revealed that Newton had a clear vision for her character’s appearance, drawing inspiration from a famous outfit worn in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
It’s actually quite amusing because I was completely unaware of all this,” Gellar explained. “Kathryn [Newton] showed me a picture of Buffy wearing this outfit, and she’d already envisioned how it would look.
The actress was talking about a memorable outfit from the first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah Michelle Gellar wore a white t-shirt layered under a partially open blue shirt, and her hair was pulled back in an updo.
She explained that during her first scene with another actress, she noticed a similarity in their outfits. She pointed it out, and the other actress asked if that was so. She had a photo showing both of them, highlighting that their hairstyles were identical, and later shared it with the viewers.
Having escaped the terrifying Le Domas family, Grace realizes the deadly game has escalated. Now, she’s forced to team up with her long-separated sister, Faith, to continue playing.
Grace is in a fight for her life, needing to protect someone named Faith and seize control of the powerful Council that governs the world. Four enemy families are also vying for the same power, and the victor will rule everything.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Will Receive a Sequel
A continuation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was officially announced in early 2025, after years of discussion. The new series, titled Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, will feature Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her iconic role as Buffy Summers.
Details about the plot are being kept secret, but it seems Buffy will act as a mentor. The new series will focus on a new Slayer. Chloé Zhao, who directed Hamnet, will direct the series, and Lilla and Nora Zuckerman will write and produce it.
The new horror film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, hits theaters on March 20th. Fans can also look forward to Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale, which is currently slated for release in 2027.
