Sam Raimi Retracts Firm Stance On Spider-Man 4

Sam Raimi recently said he wasn’t planning to direct another Spider-Man film, disappointing many fans. However, he might be reconsidering his decision.

Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire, recently told AP Entertainment he’d be thrilled to make another one. He specifically expressed interest in working with Maguire again for a fourth film.

The director clarified his previous statements about not making another Spider-Man film. He explained that he doesn’t feel it’s the right moment for him to return to the series he originally started. Raimi expressed his appreciation for the current direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man, starring Tom Holland, and his inclusion in the Avengers films. He doesn’t want to disrupt the franchise, as he believes they’re doing excellent work, and he wouldn’t want to impose himself on their success.

Raimi softened his previous stance, admitting that while a return isn’t likely in the near future, he wouldn’t rule it out entirely if the opportunity felt right. He also expressed fond memories of working with the original cast and said he’d be eager to collaborate with them again.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently doing really well as part of the larger Marvel universe with the Avengers and other heroes, and I wouldn’t want to disrupt that success just to make another film. However, I’m very interested in revisiting the character someday, and that possibility might arise in the future.

Following his first three Spider-Man films, Tobey Maguire unexpectedly appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. He wasn’t the only familiar face from the original films to join the MCU, though—Sam Raimi also directed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. There’s speculation he may return to direct a third Doctor Strange movie, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
