Horror masters Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele are teaming up for a chilling new movie centered around religious themes. Both directors are known for their groundbreaking work in the horror genre – Raimi created the popular Evil Dead series, and Peele won an Oscar for his debut film, Get Out. This marks the first time they’ve collaborated, and they promise a truly terrifying experience for audiences.
According to Deadline, Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele will produce a new horror movie inspired by the short film Portrait of God. Dylan Clark, who wrote and directed the original short – currently boasting over 8.7 million views on YouTube – is also involved in the feature adaptation. While details about the plot are being kept secret, the movie will build upon the unsettling religious ideas explored in the short. Portrait of God centers around a painting that evokes different interpretations, with some viewers even believing they see the face of God. The short relies on suspense and simplicity to create horror, letting the imagery and themes do the work. The YouTube description of the short film reads:
A young woman with strong religious faith is creating a presentation on a painting called “Portrait of God.” But as she studies the artwork, her deeply held beliefs are questioned.
Clark will direct and co-write the screenplay with Joe Russo, known for his work on The Inheritance. The horror film is a collaboration between Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. Although Peele and Raimi are only producing, their strong track records in horror suggest this adaptation of Portrait of God has great potential. The script reportedly sparked a bidding war among studios, and it appears Peele and Raimi’s companies were the successful bidders.
Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele Have More Scares Planned

Universal
Jordan Peele is working on a new horror movie, though the title hasn’t been announced yet. The film has faced several delays and doesn’t currently have a release date as Peele continues to refine it. Like his previous films – Get Out, Us, and Nope – it’s expected to blend scary elements with insightful social themes. In addition to directing, Peele will also produce a remake of the classic horror film The People Under the Stairs.
Sam Raimi is busy with several horror projects. He’s already finished directing a new film called Send Help, starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien, which will be released in 2026. He’s also producing a follow-up to the successful Evil Dead Rise, titled Evil Dead Burn, continuing the Evil Dead series he originally created. Beyond those, Raimi is producing Play Dead, and has plans to make a sequel to Crawl as well as a remake of Magic.
There’s no release date yet for the movie based on Portrait of God, but we’ll share more information as it moves into pre-production and filming. Given the buzz around the project, it’s likely they’ll aim for a fast production schedule, meaning audiences might see the first collaboration between Peele and Raimi sooner than anticipated.
