A recent update for the Hunter x Hunter manga included a surprising appearance by Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon.
Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter, recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s completed the character inking for chapter 430 of the manga. He typically shares quick marker sketches of the characters alongside these updates, but this time he posted a full color illustration. Togashi mentioned that his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, has been a big source of encouragement, helping him to continue working on the series.
The latest artwork shows Kurapika with Sailor Mars (Rei Hino). Artemis is holding a gold coin with the word “Thanks” on it, and Sailor Mars has a charm that shows her birthday, April 17th. Kurapika’s collar also displays his birthday, April 4th.
Hunter x Hunter’s Yoshihiro Togashi Reveals New Sailor Moon Crossover Art
Rei’s character is based on Takeuchi’s personal experiences as a shrine maiden in Japan. Considering this close connection, the appearance of Sailor Mars in Togashi’s recent drawing might represent Takeuchi herself.
I’ve been following the updates on the new Hunter x Hunter manga, and it’s exciting to see the progress Togashi is making. He announced earlier this year that he’d finished writing up to chapter 419, and now he’s completed the inking for the main characters all the way to chapter 430. He’s also sent chapters up to 426 to his assistants, along with detailed notes on the backgrounds and everything.
The author recently asked fans on social media to hold off on speculating about when Chapter 420 and future chapters will be released, and to wait for an official announcement from Weekly Shonen Jump.
The Hunter x Hunter manga is currently on break, scheduled to resume on December 9, 2024. While the author has a significant number of completed chapters ready, the series has historically faced frequent and long pauses due to the creator’s ongoing and severe back pain. This recent period of consistent work is therefore a welcome change in how the manga is published.
Sailor Moon Franchise Continues to Thrive With New Releases
As a fan of manga, I’ve noticed a lot of buzz around both Hunter x Hunter and Sailor Moon lately. Hunter x Hunter readers are really hoping for new chapters to come out soon, but Sailor Moon fans have some exciting new things happening with their series as well.
The new Sailor Moon anime will air as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami block starting in March 2026. In addition, a live-action stage musical called *Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo began performances in Japan on April 4, 2026.
The popular magical girl franchise continues to consistently release new merchandise and clothing in both Japan and North America.
