Ryan Reynolds & Jason Momoa’s ‘Animal Friends’ Sets January 2027 Release Date

I’m so excited about the upcoming movie, Animal Friends! It’s bringing together two of my favorite actors, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, who have both been incredible in huge films like Deadpool & Wolverine and Fast X. The idea of them teaming up for an R-rated comedy is just brilliant. From what I understand, it’s going to be a really fun mix of live-action and animation, kind of like the Sonic the Hedgehog movies or Detective Pikachu. It’s been a long time coming – they first announced it way back in April 2023, and just finished filming this April – and the release date has shifted around a bit, but I’m still counting down the days!

Originally planned for release in theaters on August 15, 2025, the movie Animal Friends, starring Reynolds and Momoa, has faced delays. After some issues during production, fans haven’t yet been able to see the finished film. Now, with further adjustments made by everyone involved, there’s hope that this highly anticipated project from the action and superhero stars will finally be released soon.

According to Deadline, the movie Animal Friends, a co-production of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, will now be released in theaters on January 22, 2027. This is a year later than initially planned, but earlier than its most recent release date.

Originally slated for August 2025, the film’s release date has undergone several changes. After moving from Sony Pictures to Warner Bros. Discovery, the date shifted to October 2025, then to May 2026, and later to June 2026. In March 2026, reports indicated another delay, this time to sometime in June 2027. However, this recent change is unique – it’s the first time the release date has been moved up instead of pushed back further.

Because Animal Friends blends live-action with animation, it’s understandable that the movie is taking longer to finish than planned. Add in some changes to how the film will be released, and the filmmakers seem to be constantly overcoming new obstacles.

Warner Bros. has assembled a star-studded cast to help promote the film to a wide audience. When the project was first revealed in February 2024, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Vince Vaughn, and Aubrey Plaza were announced as cast members. Lil Rey Howery (known for Get Out), Eric André (Bad Trip), and Rob Delaney (Deadpool & Wolverine) also have roles in the movie.

Now that the movie has a release date just under ten months away, everyone’s wondering when Warner Bros. will start promoting it and share more details. Fans are hoping this is the final release date change, allowing Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa to finally share the project they finished two years ago.

Animal Friends is now set to debut in theaters on Jan. 22, 2027.
