The upcoming Star Wars movie stars Ryan Gosling and is being directed by Shawn Levy. Being a frequent collaborator with Ryan Reynolds, it’s not exactly a shock that the actor made a point to comment on Levy’s Instagram post that revealed the movie was currently filming in the Mediterranean Sea. Honestly, the picture doesn’t have any recognizable landmarks – it just shows Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray standing on a platform in the water. It *might* be Lake Ontario, but it could just as easily be a tank on the Disney studio lot, or even something created entirely with computers. You wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have become a successful director-actor duo, collaborating on films like *The Adam Project*, *Free Guy*, and the recently hit *Deadpool & Wolverine*. The success of *Deadpool & Wolverine* likely led to Levy being chosen to direct a *Star Wars* movie – a role many have been considered for, but few have actually gotten to film.
It’s surprising to see Ryan Gosling cast in the new *Star Wars: Starfighter* movie, considering how frequently he and Ryan Reynolds collaborate. Reynolds himself doesn’t seem interested in joining the *Star Wars* universe, although he has discussed the project with Shawn Levy. Interestingly, he did suggest a concept for a mature, R-rated *Star Wars* film – one he’d write and produce, but not appear in.
If we can’t get Ryan Reynolds *in* a Star Wars movie, I’d be happy with him just making funny, sarcastic comments about his friends having adventures in that universe. No matter where *Star Wars: Starfighter* is being filmed – whether it’s Lake Ontario or the Mediterranean – the fact that they’re filming in real locations is remarkable. With so much of modern *Star Wars* now created in a studio using digital backdrops, it’s good to see that filming on location is still possible.
