I’ve always been a huge fan of Ryan Murphy – the guy behind shows like Glee and American Horror Story is a total visionary. But honestly, I was really surprised – and not in a good way – by how badly his new legal drama, All’s Fair, has been received. The reviews have been shockingly harsh!
Okay, let’s talk about Hulu’s All’s Fair. Right now, it’s facing a pretty tough reception. Critics haven’t been kind – it currently has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and that’s never a good look. Now, that score is based on a small number of reviews – just eight, to be exact – and the audience isn’t much warmer, giving it a 56% rating after a little over 100 votes. While things could turn around, the initial reviews have been pretty harsh, and it’s definitely got an uphill battle ahead of it.
The show follows a group of women who quit a traditional, male-run law firm to start their own successful practice. They’re strong, smart, and face complex personal lives as they deal with difficult breakups, hidden scandals, and changing loyalties – both in their professional and private relationships. In a cutthroat world of wealth and romance, these women aren’t just participants, they’re determined to redefine the rules.
Featuring Glenn Close, Naomi Watts, Kim Kardashian, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson, and Teyana Taylor, the series All’s Fair received harsh criticism from The Times, which called it “the worst television drama ever made.” The review went on to say the show fails to deliver on its supposed feminist message, instead becoming a shallow and unpleasant portrayal of the very greed and excess it claims to oppose, and isn’t even ‘so bad it’s good.’
The series received harsh criticism, especially regarding the reality star’s acting. One publication noted her performance was unnatural and lacked genuine emotion, mirroring the quality of the writing itself. They argued her role, which primarily generates publicity, suits a show that appears more interested in creating viral moments than providing engaging content.
The Guardian strongly disliked the show, calling it remarkably bad. One review expressed disbelief that television could be made so poorly, stating the reviewer had assumed a certain level of quality was impossible to fall below. They were proven wrong, describing the show as ‘fascinatingly, incomprehensibly, existentially terrible’.
Murphy Has Faced Backlash For Other Projects
I’m really disappointed with the new series. It was supposed to explore the story of a notorious American killer, but honestly, it’s gotten a lot of negative reactions. A lot of critics, and honestly I agree, feel it makes the same mistakes as the Dahmer series – it feels like it crosses the line from telling a story to just exploiting a tragedy. The biggest issue seems to be the way the whole thing is presented; the tone just doesn’t feel right.
Rather than deeply exploring Ed Gein’s psychology, the show The Ed Gein Story focuses on scary visuals and shocking scenes. Critics point out that the filmmakers took many creative liberties – inventing relationships and exaggerating crime scenes – which could turn Gein’s real crimes into cheap thrills instead of offering real insight. Viewers have also expressed concern about how the show deals with difficult topics like mental health and gender identity.
New episodes of All’s Fair air Tuesdays on Hulu. Monster: The Ed Gein Story is streaming on Netflix.
