Ryan Gosling Had Discussions With Marvel to Play Ghost Rider

Ryan Gosling recently addressed rumors about him potentially playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He acknowledged that there have been talks, but described the situation as “complicated.” He didn’t offer any further details.

Gosling made these comments while on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Host Josh Horowitz playfully said he’d done all he could to get Gosling cast in the role, to which Gosling responded, “You’re not working hard enough.” When Horowitz asked if there was any possibility he’d actually take the part, Gosling said, “We keep hope alive.”

Ryan Gosling’s statements hint at how Marvel chooses actors as they build out their movie universe. He mentioned in 2024 that playing Ghost Rider would be a dream role, but more recent comments indicate they haven’t made much progress on casting him, or anyone else, for the part.

Gosling’s Track Record and Upcoming Projects

Ryan Gosling hasn’t yet starred in a consistently successful movie series. Although The Nice Guys and The Fall Guy seemed like they could become franchises, they didn’t make enough money in theaters to justify sequels. For years, fans have been saying Ryan Gosling would be perfect as Johnny Blaze in a new movie, partly because he looks similar to the character in the comics. More importantly, Gosling has proven he can convincingly play both troubled, intense characters and confident, daring stunt performers – exactly the kind of range needed for a character with such a divided personality.

Currently, Marvel Studios is heavily focused on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars movies. These films are likely to feature new iterations of the X-Men, indicating that the studio is prioritizing mutant characters over heroes with supernatural origins, such as Ghost Rider and Blade, at this time.

It’s still uncertain if Ryan Gosling will ever play Ghost Rider. While he’s mentioned staying hopeful, things haven’t really moved forward yet. Fans are left waiting to see if his initial talks with Marvel will develop into a real opportunity.
