Recent reports suggest Nintendo is partnering with Illumination to create a film centered around Yoshi, Mario’s dinosaur companion.
Rumors started in November 2025 that Nintendo is either making a movie entirely about Yoshi, or will prominently feature the character in an upcoming film. The information comes from industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, who shared the claim on X (formerly Twitter).

The rumor about a Yoshi movie isn’t recent – WDWPro, a well-known theme park news source, originally reported it two years ago. According to WDWPro, the movie will likely be set in Yoshi’s Island and will explore the origins of both Princess Peach and Bowser.
Could we see a Baby Mario and Baby Peach? Perhaps sometimes in the future.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently explained that the company is actively involved in every step of adapting their games into films, from the initial planning stages all the way through production. He also stated that Nintendo is working to consistently release more movies in the future.
Yoshi’s Cultural and Series Significance
Yoshi first appeared in the 1990 video game Super Mario World for the Super Famicom (later known as the Super Nintendo in North America), and has been a regular character in Nintendo games ever since.
Yoshi has starred in several games of his own, including Yoshi’s Story, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and Yoshi’s Crafted World. He’s also a popular character in many Mario group games like Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros.. Yoshi’s unique look is instantly recognizable, and he’s been a mainstay in both adventure and party games for years.
