For decades, concert films have helped fans feel connected to their favorite musicians. Recently, as people discuss the impact of AI on music, live performances have become a central point in the debate. Many believe AI can’t replicate the special energy of a live show, especially one at a legendary venue – something real musicians have delivered consistently for generations. And when you can’t be there in person, concert films offer the closest experience to actually being at the show.
Whether it’s through recordings traded among fans of bands like the Grateful Dead, or concert films shared by fans of groups like One Direction and the Jonas Brothers, the practice of capturing and sharing live performances is a part of both music and film that continues across different genres, generations, and throughout history.
For me, no band embodies timeless music quite like the Rolling Stones. They truly break all the rules! I was so excited when, in 1991, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, and Bill Wyman released Rolling Stones – At the Max. It was the first concert film ever made in the IMAX format, captured live in 1990 during their incredible Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle Tour, and it really showed everyone just how legendary they are.
For A Limited Time, Rolling Stones – At The Max Is Returning To IMAX
For a limited time starting December 10th, the concert film Rolling Stones – At the Max is coming back to IMAX theaters after almost 35 years. The film features iconic performances of hits like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “Brown Sugar,” and “Start Me Up,” highlighting the best of this legendary rock band.
The film, which runs for 89 minutes, was initially filmed with eight of the world’s most high-resolution cameras – IMAX Film Cameras. The version releasing in 2025 has been specially updated and enhanced for modern IMAX theaters, promising a more captivating and immersive experience than ever before.
Shot with eight IMAX cameras – a first for any concert film – Rolling Stones – At the Max delivers a concert experience like no other. Created by leading audio and visual experts with cutting-edge technology, this film isn’t just a showcase of The Rolling Stones at their finest; it’s a celebration of the power of live music itself.
Based on a preview clip of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, the upcoming 2025 release of Rolling Stones – At the Max promises to be a huge and exciting way to end the year.
