Riz Ahmed is very eager to play James Bond. He reportedly became upset and abruptly ended an interview when a fellow actor told him he didn’t think he’d get the role.

What did Riz Ahmed say about James Bond?

Riz Ahmed recently told Variety that he’d love to play James Bond. He explained that all actors essentially ‘audition’ for the role throughout their careers, pointing to Daniel Craig’s performance in the 2004 film Layer Cake as an example of what that looks like – a role that hinted at his potential as Bond.

Ahmed playfully suggested that everyone tries out for the role of James Bond, just like Daniel Craig did with ‘Layer Cake.’ He confidently stated that after watching his show, viewers will agree he’d make a great Bond, and jokingly added that he’s happy with anyone playing the role, as long as it’s him.

Ahmed was told by his co-star, Guz Kahn, that he likely wouldn’t get the part. After Kahn playfully suggested Jacob Elordi (a popular choice for James Bond) had a better shot, Ahmed abruptly stood up and walked off, which got a laugh from everyone. You can see the moment happen in the video below.

The comedy series “Bait” premieres on March 25, 2026, with all six episodes dropping at once on the streaming service. Riz Ahmed stars as Shah Latif, an actor trying to catch his big break, and the show follows him as he lands a major audition.

The series depicts four chaotic days in his life as everything falls apart, with his family, former partner, and the public all questioning his suitability for the position.

Riz Ahmed leads the cast of Bait, which also features Guz Khan as Zulfi, Sheeba Chaddha as Tahira, Sajid Hasan as Parvez, Aasiya Shah as Q, Weruche Opia as Felicia, and Ritu Arya as Yasmin. Riz Ahmed co-wrote the series and serves as an executive producer alongside Allie Moore, Jake Fuller, and Ben Karlin. Bassam Tariq and Tom George directed episodes, and Riz Ahmed and Ben Karlin co-showrun the series.
