NCIS is coming back slightly different but still exciting.
The 2025-2026 television season was a significant one for the NCIS franchise. It was the first time four shows from the same universe aired at the same time across different platforms. While NCIS season 23, NCIS: Origins season 2, and NCIS: Sydney season 3 broadcast on CBS, NCIS: Tony & Ziva was available on Paramount+. Importantly, each show advanced its storylines, laying the groundwork for an even more compelling season in 2026-2027.
Fans have a lot to anticipate this fall with the return of several beloved stars to the NCIS universe. Mark Harmon will reprise his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs full-time in season 3 of NCIS: Origins, and Michael Weatherly is returning to NCIS season 24 as Tony Dinozzo Jr. for the entire season. Meanwhile, LL Cool J will continue as Sam Hanna in a new era of NCIS: New York, with Eric Christian Olsen joining the show as an executive producer.
CBS has announced that new episodes of NCIS season 24, NCIS: New York, and NCIS: Origins season 3 will premiere on October 6th. This means a slight change to CBS’s “Super Tuesday” lineup – Sam’s show will now air at the time previously held by the NCIS prequel series. As for NCIS: Sydney season 4, fans will have to wait until 2027 for its release. The original NCIS will still kick off the night.
TV shows used to return in September, as seen with the history of shows like NCIS. However, premiere dates have gradually shifted later in the fall. Recently, shows haven’t all premiered at once, and the dates have been delayed by a few weeks. For instance, the NCIS shows have started airing in early October for the past couple of years, but new episodes are now arriving a week sooner.
CBS revealed its fall 2026 lineup earlier than ABC and NBC, but hadn’t yet shared specific premiere dates for all its shows. Unlike CBS, NBC announced everything at once, giving viewers a complete overview of returning programs and when they’d air. Now that the premiere date for the NCIS franchise is set, it won’t be long before CBS announces the official dates for its other fall shows.
