Reunions That Will Prove Avengers: Doomsday Is More Than a Cameo Fest

Marvel Studios has revealed that many familiar faces will be returning in future films, including some long-awaited team-ups. While Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Doctor Doom was announced previously, Marvel has now confirmed the return of 26 characters from various teams like the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the New Avengers – many of whom haven’t appeared together on screen for years.

Beyond simply bringing the Avengers back together, Doomsday promises to reunite several beloved teams and partnerships, which is incredibly exciting for fans. These more personal reunions are expected to be particularly moving, and the movie will feature some fantastic team-ups from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Viewers are eager to see confirmations of even more MCU characters joining the cast of Avengers: Doomsday before its release in December 2026, hinting at the possibility of even more surprising team-ups.

Ant-Man & Ghost Will Reunite As Avengers After 8 Years

Despite his last solo movie not being well-received, Paul Rudd will reprise his role as Ant-Man in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. While Ant-Man is joining the team, he’s not the only character from the 2018 film Ant-Man and the Wasp who’s now an Avenger. Hannah John-Kamen’s character, Ghost, previously an assassin working for the OXE Group, has also become an Avenger after joining the Thunderbolts and then the New Avengers.

After eight years, reuniting Ant-Man and Ghost will create a fresh dynamic between them. They used to be enemies, but now they’re both Avengers and heroes. Exploring their past relationship in Avengers: Doomsday would be a great addition to the story, especially considering their history. It will be interesting to see if any rivalry remains or if they can now work together as a team.

Magneto & Mystique Had a Special Connection in Fox’s X-Men Franchise

The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will feature exciting additions from the X-Men, characters originally from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies. While that movie series concluded in 2020 with The New Mutants, some X-Men characters have already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Doomsday will bring the X-Men together to battle Doctor Doom, marking their first on-screen team-up since X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, Mystique briefly regained her human form, leading to rejection. However, recent events have changed things, and the new history involving Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will likely have a big impact on their dynamic. It will be exciting to see them team up again in Avengers: Doomsday, especially as part of a fully unified X-Men team – a first for Rebecca Romijn as the shape-shifting Mystique.

Steve Rogers & Sam Wilson Can Fight Together As 2 Captain Americas

Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America (played by Chris Evans), first met Sam Wilson in the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Later, in Avengers: Endgame, Rogers passed on the role of Captain America to Wilson. While Wilson is now leading a new Avengers team in the upcoming film Doomsday, Rogers is returning from his retirement in an alternate timeline. Fans will be excited to see Rogers and Wilson team up again in Doomsday, and there’s a possibility both characters will be Captain America!

If Sam Wilson returns as Captain America wearing his white suit, we might see him team up with Steve Rogers, just like in the comics. However, it’s still unknown how significant his part will be in the upcoming Doomsday movie. The recent reunion of Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. at the Oscars has fans speculating about a possible on-screen team-up in Avengers: Doomsday, which could involve both Rogers and Wilson working together to defeat Doctor Doom.

Steve Rogers & Bucky Barnes’ Friendship Was the Heart of Captain America’s Legacy

It’s going to be great to see Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson together again in Avengers: Doomsday, but many fans are especially excited about a potential reunion between Rogers and Bucky Barnes. These characters have a long and complicated history – they grew up as friends and both survived being given super-soldier serums – but have always supported each other. Seeing them reconnect in Doomsday promises to be a powerful and moving moment.

Since Steve Rogers’ retirement after Avengers: Endgame, Bucky Barnes has been working to make amends for his past as the Winter Soldier and build a better life. He’s even become a Congressman, surprisingly enough. Now, he’s on a path to truly become his best self, which will be especially meaningful when he meets up with Steve Rogers again in Avengers: Doomsday. This reunion will capture the emotional core that always defined the Captain America stories.

Shang-Chi & Captain Marvel’s Reunion May Resolve an MCU Post-Credits Scene

While we know many amazing Marvel characters will be in Avengers: Doomsday, fans are still hoping for a few more appearances. Many are eager to see Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) return, as she’s one of the MCU’s strongest heroes and should be part of the battle against Doctor Doom, particularly after her recent setbacks. Bringing Captain Marvel back would also give us a chance to see her team up with Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) again, following their encounter in Phase 4.

In recent events, Shang-Chi and his friend Katy encountered Wong and holographic projections of Hulk and Captain Marvel. They were all trying to figure out the source of a mysterious signal being sent by the ancient Ten Rings. Bringing Captain Marvel and Shang-Chi together could finally solve this mystery in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, resolving a plot point that’s been open for five years.

This Version of Professor X & Magneto Haven’t Been Seen Together Since 2014

Fans are excited about the potential reunion of Magneto and Mystique after twenty years, but it’s also been confirmed that Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto will share screen time again. These two characters first became friends in the 1960s, as shown in X-Men: First Class, though their differing beliefs often caused conflict. They briefly teamed up in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, but haven’t appeared together since.

A version of Professor X appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as part of the Illuminati, but was killed by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Many believe the Professor X and Magneto from Earth-10005 won’t fare much better when they face Doctor Doom. However, if they can rebuild their friendship and set aside their disagreements in Avengers: Doomsday, it will make their eventual reunion all the more powerful and meaningful.

Yelena Belova & Red Guardian’s New Dynamic Will Be Great in Avengers: Doomsday

Fans recently saw Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour) in Thunderbolts, and there’s still a lot of anticipation to see their unique, father-daughter-like connection explored further in Doomsday, on a larger scale similar to an Avengers movie. Their on-screen chemistry is fantastic, and both characters are strong additions to the New Avengers team, so audiences will be excited to see them return. While Thunderbolts introduced new aspects of their story, Doomsday has the potential to develop it even further.

The New Avengers will play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday. Fans have already met them as the core Avengers team dealing with the initial crisis, and they’re expected to provide some much-needed humor. Red Guardian, played by Harbour, is particularly funny, and Pugh brings a unique, witty energy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be exciting to see this father-daughter duo team up again – they’re one of Marvel’s strongest pairings.

Fans Will Finally See What Gambit’s Relationship to the X-Men Team Is in the MCU

For nearly twenty years, fans have hoped to see Channing Tatum play Gambit on the big screen. In 2024, that finally happened with a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. A removed scene hinted at Gambit’s return, and it was confirmed last year that Tatum would be in Avengers: Doomsday. This marks the first time Gambit will appear with the X-Men in a live-action movie, adding an exciting new dynamic to the team.

Okay, so we still don’t know if Channing Tatum’s Gambit is from the same universe as the original X-Men movies, but honestly, I’m so hyped to see him team up with guys like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Beast! He totally showed what he can do in Deadpool & Wolverine – using his powers with those cards to get them out of the Void was amazing. I have a feeling that power is going to be a huge help to the X-Men when they face Doomsday. I can’t wait!

Thor & Loki’s Reunion Will Be Emotional After Their Transformations

It’s been a while since Thor and Loki shared the screen, last appearing together at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame. While the original Loki died fighting Thanos, a version of him – and countless others from across the multiverse – will be back. Thor has also become incredibly powerful in recent films like Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder, making their reunion a potentially epic event.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m so excited about what’s coming! I’ve heard rumors that Doctor Doom is going to try and steal Loki’s ability to travel the multiverse to create his own world, Battleworld. This could actually bring Loki back into the main timeline while he’s still trying to avoid whatever trouble the new villain from Downey Jr. is causing. It sounds like Loki might end up teaming up with some seriously powerful characters, and honestly, after seven years, seeing Thor and Loki together again in Doomsday is going to be amazing! I have a feeling they’ll be Doom’s biggest challenge yet.

Mister Fantastic & Doctor Doom Will Meet in the MCU for the First Time in Doomsday

Though they haven’t shared a scene yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will finally showcase the classic rivalry between Mister Fantastic (played by Pedro Pascal) and Doctor Doom. Pascal debuted as Reed Richards, known as the Smartest Man Alive, in 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but he wasn’t present in the post-credits scene. That scene featured a meeting between Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) and Franklin Richards, setting the stage for the team’s arrival on Earth 616.

Previous movies and TV shows haven’t fully captured these characters, but the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday promises to be the best adaptation yet. It will be fantastic to see Pedro Pascal and Robert Downey Jr. share the screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their rivalry, particularly from the 2015 Secret Wars storyline, is legendary, and it’s great that The Fantastic Four: First Steps hinted at it, with Avengers: Doomsday set to deliver on that promise.
