Report: Marvel Studios To Replace Chadwick Boseman as Their Main Black Panther In 2027 Movie ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

According to a recent report, Marvel Studios might introduce a new actor to play Black Panther next year. After Chadwick Boseman‘s death in 2020, the studio decided not to find someone else to take over the role of T’Challa, and instead honored his memory in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, it now seems they are considering moving forward with a new Black Panther.

Marvel Studios is reportedly rethinking when to introduce a new Black Panther. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the studio had considered finding a successor sooner, and even auditioned actors like Aaron Pierre (known for his role in Lanterns) for the part.

The studio has decided to postpone the character’s first appearance until the 2027 film, Avengers: Secret Wars, instead of debuting them in Avengers: Doomsday:

Marvel was looking to cast a new Black Panther for their Avengers movies and considered actors such as Aaron Pierre. While they initially planned to introduce this new character during ‘Doomsday,’ they’ve now decided to save the debut for ‘Secret Wars.’

A Black Panther will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. After taking over for her brother in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri (Leticia Wright) played a significant role in one of the four promotional previews for Doomsday.

It looks like Shuri’s time as the sole Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be coming to an end.

Damson Idris is frequently mentioned as a potential replacement for Black Panther, and he hasn’t dismissed the rumors, fueling further discussion about his possible involvement.

I’ve been following the buzz, and it seems Idris Elba is definitely throwing his hat in the ring for a potential role in Marvel’s Secret Wars. He’s gone on record saying he’d jump at the chance if offered the part, which has everyone speculating he could be Marvel’s choice to fill the shoes of the late, great Chadwick Boseman. As Marvel sets up the Multiverse for Secret Wars, they have a believable way to show an older version of the young prince. They could achieve this by having him travel through time or by introducing an alternate reality version of him, which would allow Idris Elba to play an adult T’Challa II.

A popular theory, stemming from old leaks about a project called “Doomsday,” suggests that Idris Elba could be playing T’Chada as the new Black Panther. In the Marvel comics, T’Chada was Black Panther during World War II, so this could involve the multiverse or time travel to explain the change.

If the buzz is accurate, the next Black Panther will be featured in Secret Wars alongside stars like Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Sadie Sink. The movie is planned to be the epic finale of the Multiverse Saga, and is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.

A New Black Panther to Finish the Trilogy?

Having a new Black Panther team up with Shuri would be a compelling addition, enriching both the Secret Wars storyline and the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since Avengers: Secret Wars seems designed to refresh the universe rather than conclude it, this approach really begins to make sense.

This sets the stage for Black Panther 3, again directed by Ryan Coogler, to move forward with a fresh direction instead of simply continuing the old storylines and remaining focused on the legacy of T’Challa.

Even if it requires complex storytelling involving alternate universes or time travel, bringing in a new Black Panther could be a fitting way to conclude Ryan Coogler’s film series.
