A recent fan theory proposes a small detail in Red Dead Redemption actually shows Arthur Morgan, though most players are skeptical. Because Red Dead Redemption 2 came out eight years later and is a prequel, Arthur isn’t in the original RDR1 and isn’t directly mentioned. However, some players now interpret dialogue as hints about him when looking back at the game.
A Reddit user, Inexistent_Rose_1723, recently shared a theory suggesting Arthur Morgan might appear in Red Dead Redemption. They posted a screenshot showing a close-up of a photo in John and Abigail’s home, Beecher’s Hope. The user’s girlfriend believes the photo depicts a young Arthur and John, and the post has generated a lot of discussion, even though the original poster says it’s just a fun idea.
Is This Really Arthur Morgan?
Many people have noted that the person in the photo can’t actually be Arthur Morgan. He wasn’t a character during the making of Red Dead Redemption. Still, it’s a sweet idea and a lovely tribute to an important person in John’s story. A lot of fans are choosing to believe it is Arthur, treating the photo as if it’s a confirmed, unofficial glimpse of the two characters together.
It looks like the two people in the photo are holding hands, and the person on the right appears to be wearing a dress, leading us to believe it’s John and Abigail. However, the image is quite blurry, so it’s hard to say for certain. Some people think it could be John with Dutch, Javier, or Bill – characters who played a significant role in the first Red Dead Redemption and had a big impact on John when he was younger.
Why Wasn’t Arthur Morgan In Red Dead Redemption?
As a huge fan of the Red Dead Redemption games, I think the stories are incredible. But it’s pretty much impossible for Arthur Morgan to show up in the first Red Dead Redemption game, and here’s why: he tragically died of tuberculosis in 1899 during the events of RDR2. By the time RDR1 rolls around, set in 1911, and even after the epilogue of RDR2 which takes place in 1907, he’s been gone for years. It just wouldn’t fit the timeline!
As we discussed earlier, Arthur isn’t in Red Dead Redemption likely because he hadn’t been created as a character yet when the game was being made. The main members of Dutch’s gang that players hunt down as John – Bill, Javier, and Dutch himself – were the focus at the time. Had the games been developed in the order the stories happen, Arthur probably would have had a more significant role in RDR1.
It’s been twelve years since the character Arthur died, and it’s understandable that the game doesn’t constantly revisit his story. Prequels often can’t perfectly connect to everything that happened later, and that’s just the nature of the format. Despite this, fans continue to search for references to Arthur in Red Dead Redemption, which is a testament to how much they care about both games.
