Rebecca Ferguson’s film adaptation of The Magic Faraway Tree is coming to the U.S. after a recent release in the UK. The movie, based on the popular book series, now has a confirmed U.S. release date.
Vertical has recently acquired the rights to a fantasy film and plans to release it in cinemas on August 21st. This announcement follows the success of The Magic Faraway Tree, which earned almost $11 million in the UK box office after just 11 days.
The Magic Faraway Tree Had an Enchanting Reception
The movie The Magic Faraway Tree quickly became a big success in the UK, ranking as the country’s most popular live-action family film since Paddington in Peru and other movies based on Roald Dahl’s work, like Wonka and Matilda. This isn’t surprising, as writer Simon Farnaby also worked on both Paddington and Wonka.
The new fantasy movie, based on the classic book series by Enid Blyton, opened in theaters on March 27th to positive reviews. The book series began in 1939, and the second book, which inspired the film’s title, was published in 1943.
The game initially launched with very high praise, but its rating has settled to an excellent 96% as more people have reviewed it. Currently, there are 26 reviews available, and an overall audience score hasn’t been calculated yet.
Most viewers really enjoyed the movie, describing it as a comfortable and charming family film. They especially liked how it was updated for modern audiences and praised the actors’ performances, finding it an all-around fun and entertaining experience.
The film’s only negative review comes from Kevin Maher of The Times, who criticized the script as “deplorable.” He felt the adaptation lacked confidence, resulting in a disjointed series of sketches, brief appearances by celebrities, and strange, unnecessary detours.
