The new Reacher show focusing on Neagley sounds promising, but it feels like the series is falling back on a predictable and somewhat frustrating pattern.
Okay, so the Neagley show is a really interesting turning point for the Reacher universe. It feels like a fresh start because it’s not adapting a book – these are all original stories. And while we’ll still get to see Jack Reacher – Alan Ritchson is onboard, though in a smaller role – this series really puts Maria Sten’s character front and center, letting her take the lead. It’s a bold move, and I’m excited to see where they take it.
Despite appearing different, the storyline of the Neagley spinoff actually carries on a recurring theme from Reacher.
Neagley Is Following The Prime Video Franchise’s Most Oversaturated Storytelling Trend

So far, each season of Reacher has followed a revenge storyline. The first season centered on avenging his brother’s death, and the second repeated this pattern with Reacher seeking justice for the deaths of his old military team. Season 3 continues this trend, as Reacher aims to punish the person who killed his former colleague, Dominique Kohl.
After three Reacher seasons, the Neagley spinoff, too, is not changing anything.
The new series will follow Neagley as she investigates what really happened to her friend, who died in what was reported as an accident.
Given how popular Reacher has become, it makes sense that the creators of Neagley are using a similar approach. But if Neagley wants to stand out and achieve the same level of success, it needs to find its own unique qualities and offer something new.
Neagley Will Find Other Ways To Etch Its Own Identity
The upcoming Neagley series will probably be more focused on standard police procedures than the Reacher show, reflecting Neagley’s work within the legal system. In addition to a more careful, step-by-step approach to investigations, the series will also delve into Neagley’s history, revealing how her past experiences led to her strict principles and reserved personality.
As seen in season two of Reacher, Neagley differs from Jack Reacher in that she prefers to work with others rather than alone. This opens the door for the spin-off series to include a wider range of supporting characters who can help her with investigations.
It makes sense that the Neagley spin-off would benefit from appearances by Reacher, but it’s important he doesn’t take over the show. If Reacher’s role is too big, the spin-off could feel like just another continuation of his story instead of giving Maria Sten’s character the spotlight she deserves.
Fortunately, Reacher Season 4 Will Finally Break This Trend
The show has typically given Jack Reacher personal reasons to get involved in cases, but season 4 will be different. It will adapt the novel Gone Tomorrow, where Reacher is motivated by his regret over not being able to prevent a tragedy. This new focus—driven by guilt rather than personal connection—promises a fresh direction for the series.
This will also open up possibilities for future seasons of Reacher and Neagley to explore deeper, more personal struggles with morality and what’s right and wrong, moving beyond simple stories of revenge or grief.
