I have to say, “Reacher” always seemed like one of those shows my dad would really get into – you know, a “dad show.” But it looks like the creators are trying to shake that image with the newest season. It started as a series of awesome books by Lee Child, and after being made into movies, it’s now a huge hit on Prime Video as a TV show. I’m really enjoying it!

Alan Ritchson plays the lead role in this popular Prime Video series, where he stars as a strong military police officer who becomes a wandering vigilante. The show has received excellent reviews from both viewers and critics, boasting a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, a spin-off is in development, which could change the direction of the overall story.

Reacher’s Upcoming Spinoff Makes It More Than A Typical “Dad Show”

You could easily consider Reacher part of what people online call a “dad show.” This is a popular term for series featuring older, tough male protagonists who don’t always eagerly jump into the central problems of the story.

Despite the name, plenty of people enjoy what are called “dad shows” – not just fathers! You’ll often find mothers, grandparents, and others tuning in. These shows are typically crime or thriller series, but they generally focus more on suspense than heavy drama.

These are the kinds of shows you can easily jump into mid-way through – like when a family member wanders in after it’s already started, even after you’ve told them you’re about to begin watching!

A new series based on the character Neagley is in the works as a spin-off of Reacher, and it’s expected to premiere around 2026. This show, starring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, will likely be a fast-paced thriller with a female lead, offering a different vibe than the more traditional feel of the Reacher series.

You know, this concept feels a little outdated to me. It probably worked better back when TV wasn’t as good as it is now. There used to be a lot of shows – I call them ‘dad shows’ – that were just easy, mindless entertainment. You didn’t really need to follow anything complicated, you could just tune in for half an hour and get a little enjoyment out of it. But with the quality of television these days, that kind of show just doesn’t quite cut it anymore.

Viewers today are more discerning, and as a result, television shows are generally of higher quality. While the series Reacher might seem like something a father would enjoy, it’s actually a well-regarded show that explores interesting themes. If the character Neagley can change the perception of Reacher and prevent it from being labeled a “dad show,” it suggests that label was never accurate in the first place.
