While many hoped Kaley Ritchson would be cast as the new Batman in the DC Universe, it seems that might not happen. However, he’s still in discussions with DC about joining the franchise in a different, potentially more complex role.
The process of choosing actors for the DC Universe is usually kept private, despite James Gunn frequently announcing on social media which actors aren’t being considered for roles. According to actor Alan Ritchson, he’s now confirmed to be joining the DCU cast, and the main question now is what character he’ll be playing. He shared this information with ScreenRant.
I’ve been talking to them about wanting to play a more complex and flawed character. I explained the type of personality I had in mind and how that would impact the story, and I believe it’s something everyone is eager to see. Basically, I want to play someone a little less perfect than the usual hero.
Although Batman isn’t always portrayed as a traditional hero, Alan Ritchson has indicated he’s not seeking that role in the new DC Universe. James Gunn has acknowledged the strong fan support for Ritchson as Batman in The Brave and the Bold, but has stated he’d like to find a place for Ritchson within the DCU, even if it’s not as the Dark Knight.
Alan Ritchson Could Be Playing a Hero or Villain in the DCU

Now that Alan Ritchson’s career seems to be gaining momentum, fans are speculating about his next role in the DC universe. He’s previously played heroes like Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk in Titans, leading many to think he might be taking on a villainous or more complex character this time around.
Now that DC is reportedly starting to cast for its next film, Man of Tomorrow, fans are speculating about actor Alan Ritchson’s recent conversations with director James Gunn. Some believe this could mean Ritchson will play a villain in the upcoming Superman movie, potentially as Lex Luthor. Others think Gunn might choose a more unexpected route, casting a lesser-known character – a tactic he’s used successfully before.
Fans have suggested several roles for Joe Manganiello, including Wildcat, Midnighter, Bane, and Azrael in the upcoming The Batman Part II. Some have also mentioned Swamp Thing, even though that project is currently uncertain, or a return as his Titans character, Hawk. Ultimately, we’ll learn who Manganiello will play when James Gunn is ready to announce it – until then, all of this is just guesswork.
