‘Reacher’ Star Alan Ritchson’s Untitled Action War Movie to Begin Filming Soon

The star of Reacher has already established himself as a leading action actor with the popular Prime Video series. He’s now taking on a challenging new role in a film based on a true war story, showcasing both his dramatic and action skills. The project, which counts Hollywood icon and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone as a producer, is being made by Amazon MGM Studios and is about to begin filming.

The upcoming war movie, currently without a title, will star Kaley Ritchson as Mike Thornton, a highly decorated Navy SEAL. Thornton received the Medal of Honor for bravely rescuing a fellow soldier during a fierce battle in the Vietnam War.

Filming is due to begin later this month, according to Screen Queensland, with Ritchson returning to Queensland, Australia to make the movie following the completion of another action thriller, the upcoming Runner. Directed by Australian filmmaker Patrick Hughes (Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard), the war movie stars Alan Ritchson (Reacher, Fast X) alongside Joe Cole (Subversion, A Prayer Before Dawn) and Hoa Xuande (The Sympathizer, Avatar: The Last Airbender). Alan Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes are teaming up for their second action movie, though the project doesn’t have a title yet. Before that, they’ll be working on the sci-fi action film War Machine, which will premiere on Netflix on March 6, 2026. The movie stars Ritchson alongside Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney, Stephan James, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber. The story follows an elite team of U.S. Army Rangers whose training exercise becomes a desperate battle for survival against a mysterious enemy.

In addition to an upcoming Vietnam War film and War Machine, Alan Ritchson will return as Jack Reacher in a fourth season and a spin-off series focused on Frances Neagley, both planned for release in 2026. Plus, later this year, he’ll star in the 1970s action thriller Motor City, directed by Potsy Ponciroli. The film centers on his character, a quiet former convict seeking revenge after being wrongly accused of a crime.
