Westerns are still incredibly popular on TV in 2026, and it’s not just due to new shows like Marshals and Dutton Ranch, which are connected to the world of Yellowstone. The show Ransom Canyon also returned for a second season on Netflix, bringing back Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. However, the second season of Ransom Canyon featured a lot of cast changes, which meant some important storylines from the first season were wrapped up or dropped.
Netflix revived the romantic Western series a little over a year after its 2025 debut, and the show has a solid foundation thanks to the novels it’s based on. The Ransom Canyon book series by Jodi Thomas consists of ten books published from 2015 to 2019. While the show isn’t a word-for-word adaptation of the books, there’s plenty of material to keep the story going.
I have to admit, season two of Ransom Canyon wasn’t quite as exciting as the first one. But I really respect that April Blair, the showrunner, wasn’t afraid to shake things up! She made some bold choices with the cast this time around – we lost a few characters I loved, and others weren’t around as much. On the bright side, they brought in some new blood, including an actress who already has three Emmys, which is amazing!

Four key characters from the first season didn’t appear in the second, though one departure was anticipated. James Brolin’s character, Cap Fuller, died in season one, so his return wasn’t expected. However, the exits of Eoin Macken, Andrew Liner, and Meta Golding – who played Davis Collins, Reid Collins, and Paul Jo respectively – weren’t properly explained, leaving fans unaware of why these characters were gone.
Kenneth Miller started out as a main cast member in the first season but appeared as a guest star in the second. Meanwhile, Lauren Glazier began as a guest star in season one and then took on a more significant role in season two.
