Prime Video’s New James Bond-Related Comedy ‘Bait’ Debuts With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

The new Prime Video series, Bait, a clever take on the world of James Bond, has launched to rave reviews, earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The six-episode comedy-drama, which premieres soon, is being praised for its sharp satire of the entertainment industry. It explores themes of identity, fame, and what it’s like to be an outsider, much like shows such as Apple TV’s The Studio and Marvel’s Wonder Man. Bait centers around an actor who gets the chance of a lifetime: auditioning to be the next James Bond.

The series Bait stars Riz Ahmed, a long-time fan favorite for the role, who playfully campaigned for it himself. The show follows four turbulent days in his character’s life, which quickly become chaotic when news of the audition is made public. He finds himself at the center of intense public scrutiny as everyone debates whether he’s the right fit for the part. Ahmed certainly looks the part, sporting a stylish black tuxedo to capture the sophisticated image expected of a James Bond agent, and critics seem to agree he’s a good choice.

The new series is getting fantastic reviews, currently boasting a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. While this score could change as more reviews come in – there are only six reviews so far – it’s a very promising beginning. Critics are describing the show as “electrifying,” “funny,” and “painfully believable.” Overall, viewers seem to be particularly impressed with the show’s clever writing, psychological complexity, and the strong performances from lead actor Ahmed, as well as the supporting cast including Guz Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Aasiya Shah, Sajid Hasan, Ritu Arya, and Werunche Opia.

Kaiya Shunyata from RogerEbert.com praised Bait as “one of the funniest and most electrifying shows of the year,” highlighting its insightful exploration of the mental challenges performers face, both during and outside of filming. While The Hollywood Reporter‘s Daniel Fienberg didn’t quite consider it a masterpiece, he still found it compelling, describing it as “interesting and admirable” and noting its potential for greatness.
