Prime Video’s popular action series has been picked up for two more seasons, and it could potentially run for even longer given the wealth of material it’s based on. A show doesn’t always need great reviews to be renewed for multiple seasons – if viewers love it, that’s often enough. For example, even though Taylor Sheridan’s Western series, The Madison, hasn’t been critically acclaimed, its popularity led to Paramount renewing it for a second and third season.
It’s not surprising when shows with poor reviews but large audiences get renewed. So, it’s even more certain that shows praised by critics and popular with viewers will continue. For example, even though Prime Video’s Scarpetta received weak reviews but was renewed for a second season, another Prime Video thriller has earned both a fourth and fifth season thanks to its combination of positive reviews and broad appeal.
Along with popular series like The Boys and Invincible, Reacher is a major hit for Prime Video. The show, based on Lee Child’s novels, stars Alan Ritchson as a tough ex-military police officer who travels from town to town. Wherever he goes, he inevitably gets caught up in a criminal mystery and has to use his strength and skills to solve it. Each season introduces a new crime – whether it involves drugs or police corruption – allowing the show to follow a familiar pattern while still keeping things interesting.
Reacher Can Last As Long As Prime Video (& Alan Ritchson) Wants It To
As a huge fan of the Reacher show, I’m really excited about season 4! It’s going to be based on Lee Child’s novel Gone Tomorrow, which is set in New York City. From what I understand, the story throws Reacher into a really complex conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of power. If they do this book justice, it’s going to solidify Reacher as one of the best action thrillers we’ve seen in years, and thankfully, it doesn’t sound like this will be the last we see of the character!
The Reacher series, based on Lee Child’s extensive library of over 30 novels, has plenty of source material for future seasons. While fans enjoy seeing familiar faces, the show’s ability to start fresh in new locations makes it accessible for new viewers – you don’t need to have watched previous seasons to jump right in.
Reacher’s Long-Term Future Gives Us Hope Familiar Characters Will Return
As a critic, I can confidently say Reacher has all the ingredients for long-term success, so it’s no shock Amazon has already greenlit seasons four and five! What’s really exciting, though, is the upcoming Neagley spinoff. It opens up a whole new world for the franchise, letting them tell original stories outside of the Lee Child novels. This is smart; it allows the show to keep what works – adapting those fantastic standalone books – while also taking some bolder, more unexpected turns with Neagley. It’s a perfect balance, and I’m eager to see where they take it.
The announcement of two more seasons of Reacher will likely get fans excited about the potential return of familiar faces from past seasons. Characters like Richard Beck from season 3 and Roscoe, the police sergeant and former love interest from season 1, are popular with viewers. However, bringing back these characters could disrupt the show’s current format, which allows new viewers to easily jump in. So, if the creators decide to revisit past characters in seasons 4 and beyond, they’ll need to do so carefully to maintain what makes Reacher successful.
