Currently, Pretty Lethal is a very popular movie on Amazon Prime Video. Even though it’s an original film with a quirky story and doesn’t feature any huge stars, it quickly climbed the Prime Video charts and has stayed in the top 10 for around two weeks now.

Pretty Lethal is about a ballet troupe whose travel to a big competition takes a dangerous turn. When they stop at a remote inn, they find themselves caught up in a sinister situation and must fight for survival, resulting in a lot of exciting and exaggerated action.

It’s a bit unexpected that Pretty Lethal is doing so well, but it really earns its popularity – it’s a genuinely fun movie. It also reminds me of a Prime Video film from 2021, Birds of Paradise, which deserved more attention but unfortunately didn’t quite catch on with viewers.

If you enjoyed Birds of Paradise, you might also like Pretty Lethal. Both films center around ballerinas, showcase the talents of young actresses, and take unexpected turns. However, despite these similarities, they’re distinct movies and both are worth checking out.

Birds Of Paradise Is A Prime Video Hidden Gem

When it was first released, Birds of Paradise didn’t generate a lot of buzz on the streaming platform. While it was watched by a good number of people, it didn’t quite become a major success. The film is adapted from the 2019 novel Bright Burning Stars by A.K. Small and features a compelling story.

Birds of Paradise follows Kate and Marine, two ballet dancers in Paris, as they fiercely compete for a prestigious contract. Their rivalry leads to both sexual exploration and a discovery of how far they’re willing to go to achieve their dreams.

I recently checked out Birds of Paradise, and while it’s not perfect, it’s definitely worth a watch. Critics seemed to agree – it has a respectable 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes. What really stood out to me, though, were the performances by Diana Silvers and Kristine Frøseth. They were fantastic and honestly carried the whole film.

How Birds Of Paradise & Pretty Lethal Are Different

The main difference between these two films lies in their genre. Pretty Lethal is an action comedy where ballet dancers perform over-the-top fight choreography while dancing, making a scary premise surprisingly fun.

Birds of Paradise leans towards dramatic storytelling and has thriller elements. When Kate casually mentions the death of a former dancer, the dancer’s sister, Marine, physically assaults her. This incident sparks a complex relationship filled with psychological maneuvering, a developing friendship, growing respect, and ultimately, betrayal.

Although Pretty Lethal and Birds of Paradise might seem similar at first glance, they’re actually quite different. Pretty Lethal is a fun, fast-paced action movie, while Birds of Paradise is more complex and explores deeper ideas, making it a bit harder to get into.

Both movies are worth watching, and even though they’re quite different, people who enjoy one will likely appreciate the other. It’s a great opportunity to discover or revisit the excellent film, Birds of Paradise.
