Prime Video has cancelled one of its shows about growing up after only one season. Both the streaming service and the people who made the show have commented on what this means for the main actors and characters.
The Runarounds canceled by Prime Video after Season 1
Prime Video has canceled the young adult musical drama The Runarounds after just one season, about seven months after it first premiered in September. The show’s cancellation happened quietly a few months ago. Fortunately for the lead actress, Lilah Pate, she’s now landed a main role in Frisco King, a spinoff of Taylor Sheridan’s series, on Paramount+.
Even though the TV show was cancelled, the rock band at the heart of it all will keep performing. The band – William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher – is touring until the end of June. They announced on Instagram that while the series is finished, they plan to continue making music together as a band.
Jonas Pate, who co-created the show Outer Banks, teamed up with executive producers Josh Pate and Shannon Burke to create this new series. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Skydance Television, the show follows a group of friends who just graduated high school and are starting a rock band in Wilmington, North Carolina. They recently announced on Instagram that their first album is on the way.
Following the hit show The Summer I Turned Pretty, Amazon’s Prime Video was trying to expand its offerings for young adult audiences with series like The Runarounds, Maxton Hall, and We Were Liars, as well as the Culpables movie series. Unfortunately, like Motorheads, another 2025 cancellation, The Runarounds didn’t gain enough viewers to make the Top 10 according to Nielsen ratings.
The show appeared on Luminate’s Top 50 chart for its first three weeks, reaching No. 32 in its debut weekend with 1.9 million hours viewed. The band stated that if the series motivated even one person, of any age, to start a band with friends, it would be considered a success. The show featured actors like Maximo Salas, Brooklyn Decker, and Hayes MacArthur.
