A new Batman show is expanding the DC universe by introducing a fresh villain to Batman’s collection of enemies. The animated series, Bat-Fam, will premiere on Prime Video in November and continues the story begun in Merry Little Batman. While both shows feature well-known DC characters, they offer a unique and creative take on these heroes and villains.
The latest trailer for the Bat-Family series revealed several classic Batman villains who will appear, including Clayface (before he’s seen in a movie in 2026), the Joker, and Solomon Grundy. The trailer also showcased a brand new character created specifically for the show.

A red-haired female villain with a top hat appeared with the Mad Hatter, and a recent clip from the Bat-Fam series has revealed her identity. In the clip, Damian Wayne asks Claire Selton for help, mentioning that “Mad and Sad Hatter are on the loose.” This confirms that the villain accompanying the Mad Hatter is a new character called Sad Hatter.
The Sad Hatter is a brand new villain being introduced in the Bat-Fam animated series, expanding Batman’s collection of enemies. Based on the Alice in Wonderland character, the Mad Hatter is usually depicted as mentally unstable and uses mind control and hypnosis to fight his opponents.

The upcoming series Bat-Fam introduces a new character, the Sad Hatter, who appears to be an ally or sidekick to the Mad Hatter. She lives up to her name with a gloomy appearance – dark makeup and a tendency to deliver sarcastic remarks, like a dismissive “Oh no, we’re busted,” even to Batman.
As a huge Batman fan, I’m really intrigued by this new villain, the Sad Hatter. It sounds like he’s basically the Mad Hatter’s opposite – where the Mad Hatter is all wild energy and over-the-top schemes, this guy seems gloomy and cynical. What’s cool is that the Mad Hatter usually has a crew helping him out, but this Sad Hatter appears to be a loner, which is a fresh take on the character. It’s awesome to see Batman’s gallery of villains expanding with such interesting twists!
Created by Mike Roth and Jase Ricci, the series Bat-Fam features Yonas Kibreab, Luke Wilson, and James Cromwell returning as their characters from Merry Little Batman. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 10, 2025.
Bat-Fam Introduces New Takes on Batman’s Classic Villains
The introduction of Sad Hatter is the first of several new villains planned for the Bat-Fam series. The Prime Video show will also feature many of Batman’s well-known enemies from his classic Rogues Gallery, but with fresh and original takes on their stories.
Characters traditionally seen as Batman’s enemies, like Man-Bat and Ra’s Al Ghul, are reimagined as part of the family in Bat-Fam, even living with Bruce and Damian Wayne at Wayne Manor. The series also offers a fresh take on Claire Selton, formerly the villain Volcana, by showing her trying to turn her life around.
The Bat-Family series offers a fresh take on Batman stories, leaning into a fun, animated family style. This means familiar characters and villains are reimagined to fit the show’s comedic tone. The addition of characters like the Sad Hatter is a prime example of how Bat-Family delivers something new and different for DC fans.
