Prime Video has a pattern of leaving fans uncertain about the future of popular fantasy series. Following the cancellation of The Wheel of Time, another well-liked show is now without any news about its renewal.
The fantasy comedy series first aired in 2019, adapted from the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Following accusations of sexual assault against Gaiman, he stepped away from the show, and work on the third season was halted. Instead, it was released as a single, feature-length finale. After two years of inactivity, the show’s official social media account finally posted an update.
The post featured a photo of Aziraphale glancing at Crowley, labeled simply with the number “1,” and included the show’s hashtag.
The social media account responded to a comment from Good Omens News asking for clarification, simply stating, “Numbers can mean anything, really.”
The social media account hasn’t been updated since June 10, 2024, which led followers to wonder what happened. Some even speculated it might be part of a countdown to something.
Good Omens centers around Crowley, a demon, and Aziraphale, an angel, who have known each other for millennia as representatives of Hell and Heaven. Over time, their initial acquaintance blossomed into a close friendship, hinting at deeper feelings. While Season 1 only suggested a possible connection, Season 2 explored their longing for each other more explicitly.
Okay, so Season 2 left me absolutely reeling! Just when you thought things couldn’t get more complicated, Gabriel and Beelzebub, of all beings, decided to ditch their respective realms for a romance. But the real gut punch? Watching Aziraphale, with the hopeful mission of rebuilding Heaven, leave Crowley behind. It was a heartbreaking decision, and honestly, I’m still processing it. The season ended on such a painful note, leaving me desperate to see what happens next and if those two will ever be reunited.
In December 2023, Prime Video confirmed a third season of ‘Good Omens’. While the storyline remains a secret, David Tennant, who plays Crowley, hinted at a deepening romantic connection between his character and Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen). Sheen also suggested that Season 3 will be a rewarding conclusion for fans.
After accusations surfaced against Neil Gaiman, work on the series stopped, and the focus shifted to completing the final episode. Since October 2024, Prime Video hadn’t shared any news, making the recent activity on social media the first hopeful sign for fans.
