Prime Video Cancels Countdown & Butterfly After 1 Season

Amazon Prime Video has decided not to renew two popular thriller series after their first seasons. Both shows starred Jensen Ackles and Daniel Dae Kim.

Prime Video has decided not to renew either *Countdown* or *Butterfly* for a second season, according to reports. *Countdown*, which premiered in June 2025, starred Jensen Ackles, known for his roles in *Supernatural* and *The Boys*. *Butterfly*, starring Kim, debuted in August. Kim is famous for his work on the TV series *Lost*. Both shows were produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Countdown is a 13-episode series starring Jared Ackles as Mark Meachum, a Los Angeles police detective who joins a secret team to investigate a murder within the Department of Homeland Security. Butterfly centered on David Jung, played by Jin Ha, a former intelligence officer living in South Korea, and how his past came back to haunt him. Unfortunately, Butterfly was canceled after only six episodes aired.

The decision to cancel these shows is unexpected, especially *Countdown*, which has remained popular on Prime Video’s Top 10 list even after its first season ended. It’s currently at number 10. Both *Countdown* and *Butterfly* have also appeared on Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for streaming originals – *Countdown* reached number 8 with its weekly releases, and *Butterfly* hit number 6 after releasing all episodes at once. These cancellations follow the recent cancellation of *Motorhead* on Prime Video.
