Predator: Badlands Offers First Look at its Main Character

The highly anticipated film, , is coming out next month, and to build excitement, Marvel is releasing a short prequel film. The , who also helped write the main movie, collaborated closely with Marvel to ensure this short film fits seamlessly with the larger story.

This one-shot comic is written by Ethan Sacks, with artwork by Elvin Ching. It focuses on Dek, the Predator warrior who will be featured in the new film. His father sends him on a mission to recover a piece of technology from what looks like an abandoned spaceship, but it quickly becomes clear that things aren’t as they seem, and Dek finds himself in a dangerous situation. This story expands on Dek’s character before you see him in the film (or, if you’ve already seen the film, it provides additional backstory). Marvel has shared a few preview pages from the comic.

In a statement, the comic’s writer, Ethan Sacks, shared his excitement about the project. He said, “As a lifelong fan of the Predator franchise, this is a dream come true – the ultimate opportunity to write a story featuring the Yautja. We collaborated closely with the creators of Predator: Badlands to ensure this prequel seamlessly integrates with the existing film series. In a press release, the film’s director, Dan Trachtenberg, explained, “Badlands is the first Predator movie to take so much inspiration from the comic books.
