Predator: Badlands First Reactions Are In

Early reviews are coming in for Predator: Badlands, which releases on November 7th. Unlike past Predator movies where the creature hunts humans, this time the predator is the one being hunted. He teams up with a wounded Weyland-Yutani mercenary named Thia (Ella Fanning) to find a powerful new enemy.

With its release just over a week away, early reviews of the new Predator movie are very positive. One reviewer, @thebrosgeekout, called it “one hell of an action ride” and praised its surprisingly emotional story about a Predator searching for belonging.

Film critic Josh Barton found Badlands to be decent, but believes it might be Dan Trachtenberg’s least impressive Predator film so far. Despite this, he acknowledges that the movie still provides the exciting action fans expect from the series.

Dexerto’s Eammon Parks Jacobs described the film as fast-paced and consistently engaging, highlighting director Trachtenberg’s clever choice to expand the scope of the story instead of simply repeating familiar elements from the franchise.

Film critic Gavin Spoors found the movie surprisingly funny and touching, though he notes that it’s generally successful rather than flawless.

Podcaster Neil Vagg agrees with other reviewers, stating that Badlands shifts the series away from horror and into a more straightforward science fiction story, resulting in an exciting and enjoyable experience for viewers.

User Nicole’s Film Perspectives described Badlands as a thrilling and action-filled adventure. They particularly highlighted Fanning’s performance, noting that she is captivating and keeps viewers engaged.

These initial reactions are exciting, but we’ll likely have to wait for official reviews until the movie is released. Still, there’s a lot of buzz around Predator: Badlands, especially because the Predator series has become popular again recently. A big part of that renewed interest is thanks to the creative work of director Shane Trachtenberg.

Following his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane, director Trachtenberg became a valuable part of the Predator series, beginning with the 2022 Hulu film Prey. The movie was a big hit on streaming and reignited interest in the franchise after a string of disappointing sequels.

Trachtenberg followed up his success with another win – Prey, a really solid R-rated animated film. Critics loved it, and audiences did too, giving it a fantastic 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s clear he knows how to deliver a thrilling experience!

Following the release of Badlands, director Trachtenberg shared that he’s already working on another Predator film. In an interview with SFX Magazine, he explained that he began brainstorming potential sequels after Prey came out, developing three distinct ideas. He identified the first as Killers, the second as Badlands, and hinted at a third, currently unconfirmed project. Many believe this third movie will be a sequel to Prey.

The new Predator movie, Badlands, hits theaters November 7th. It’s the first time a Predator film has been released in cinemas since 2018’s The Predator. As a special treat, Prey will also be shown in theaters alongside Badlands as a double feature.
