Predator: Badlands Box Office Outgrosses Predator 2 In One Weekend, Closes In On Original Movie

The new movie, Predator: Badlands, is off to a strong start, quickly becoming one of the most popular films in the Predator series. As the ninth installment overall (counting the crossovers with the Alien movies) and the seventh to be released in cinemas, it stars Elle Fanning as Thia, a synthetic human created by Weyland-Yutani. She teams up with Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a Yautja who has been exiled from his tribe, for a thrilling adventure.

According to Variety, Predator: Badlands is projected to earn $80 million worldwide over its opening weekend – $40 million domestically and $40 million internationally. This means it will surpass the total lifetime earnings of the original Predator 2 ($54.8 million) in just three days, making it the sixth highest-grossing film in the Predator series.

The new film is less than $19 million away from earning more at the box office than the original 1987 Predator movie, which made $98.3 million. It’s likely to surpass that amount during its second weekend, or possibly even by the end of its first full week in theaters. Here’s a complete look at how all the Predator films have performed at the box office, without adjusting for inflation.

Title Worldwide Total
Predator (1987) $98.3 million
Predator 2 (1990) $54.8 million
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) $172.5 million
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007) $128.9 million
Predators (2010) $127.2 million
The Predator (2018) $159.5 million
Prey (2022) N/A (streaming release)
Predator: Killer of Killers (2025) N/A (streaming release)
Predator: Badlands (2025) $80 million (and counting)

It’s still uncertain how well Predator: Badlands will ultimately perform, but its estimated $40 million opening weekend is the best in the series’ history. This strong start suggests it could eventually become the highest-grossing Predator film overall.

Currently, Predator: Badlands is performing better than the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator, which opened with $38.3 million. If this continues, Badlands could earn around $185 million worldwide. However, with strong reviews – an 85% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a record-breaking A- CinemaScore, the best in the series – the film has the potential to significantly exceed that amount.
