Now that Predator: Badlands is in theaters, people are closely watching how well it will do financially and what critics will say. Initial estimates show it could have a very strong opening weekend, potentially one of the best in the Predator series. Plus, the film’s “Certified Fresh” rating on review sites suggests a positive boost for the franchise.
Predator: Badlands could make north of $25 million at opening box office
The new Predator movie, ‘Badlands’, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, is expected to bring in over $25 million during its opening weekend in North America. This would make it the second-best opening ever for a ‘Predator’ film, following only ‘Alien vs. Predator,’ which earned $38 million.
The movie is expected to earn between $25 million and $30 million in the United States, and between $35 million and $38 million internationally, bringing the worldwide opening weekend to around $60 million to $68 million (according to Variety). Produced by 20th Century Studios, a Disney company, the film cost about $105 million to produce, not including marketing costs.
This is the ninth movie in the Predator series, and it’s the first one rated PG-13. The filmmakers hope this lower rating will bring in a wider, younger audience. Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed Prey and another Predator film, is back as director. The movie stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi.
With an 87% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Predator: Badlands is currently the highest-rated Predator movie released in theaters. The film centers on a young, unconventional Predator (played by Schuster-Koloamatangi) who joins forces with Thia (Fanning), a synthetic human created by Weyland-Yutani, to battle a formidable foe. Thanks to positive reviews and a PG-13 rating, it’s expected to perform better at the box office than previous installments, Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018), both of which opened with $24 million.
